Our client is seeking an experienced Planning Director to lead their thriving Sheffield office, covering a wide region across Yorkshire, The Humber, and the North of England. This office houses teams with expertise in sustainable development, strategic planning, and masterplanning, fostering a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to projects.

The Role
With support from senior management, you will lead the Sheffield Planning Office, driving its continued growth and enhancing its already impressive portfolio. The office handles a diverse range of projects, including residential and mixed-use developments, urban regeneration, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and education projects. You will also work across the wider company network, collaborating with other offices to deliver projects as part of a united team.

As Planning Director, you’ll play a key role in expanding the professional team, strengthening client relationships, and promoting the office at networking events. You’ll lead major projects and be involved in development management, planning applications, appeals, site promotion, and public inquiries. Your leadership and vision will guide the team and help develop new business opportunities.

  • Lead and grow the established planning team
  • Mentor and support team members as the office expands
  • Oversee client relationships and secure new business opportunities
  • Manage major planning applications, appeals, and site promotions
  • Drive office performance, including financial planning, budgeting, and profitability
  • Contribute to company-wide business strategies and growth sectors
  • Report to the Board of Directors and play a role in company governance

About You
We are looking for a qualified Town Planner with over 10 years of experience, ideally in private consultancy or a mix of public and private sector roles. You should be a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and have a postgraduate qualification in planning. Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and business development skills are essential, along with a full driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.

Why Join?
Our client offers a competitive salary and a performance-linked bonus scheme, along with health insurance, pension, and other benefits. As part of an Employee-Owned Trust, you will have the opportunity to benefit from tax-free bonuses and a potential future payment tied to your ownership stake in the company.
