About the Role

Are you ready to take the next step in your hydrology or flood risk career? Ocean to Earth Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a highly respected multidisciplinary environmental consultancy in their search for a Senior to Principal Consultant with 5–7 years of experience in flood risk and hydraulic modelling.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team working at the forefront of environmental consultancy across the UK.

🔍 About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated professional with a background in Geography, Earth or Environmental Sciences, or Engineering. Ideally, you’ll already be a member of CIWEM or working toward chartership.

While the role is based in Manchester, there is flexibility for hybrid or remote working arrangements for experienced candidates. Occasional visits to the Sheffield office (S36 2AA) will be expected.

✅ Key Requirements

  • Proven experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments, hydraulic modelling reports, and water environment ES chapters.

  • Sound knowledge of UK flood risk and drainage policy (England, Wales, Scotland).

  • Competence in hydrological assessment tools (e.g., FEH Statistical Analysis, ReFH2, WINFAP).

  • Experience with modelling software such as HECRAS, TUFLOW, ESTRY, and Flood Modeller.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent time management and organisational abilities.

  • Confidence in liaising with clients, regulatory bodies, and multidisciplinary teams.

🌱 What’s in It for You?

This is a key growth role with clear pathways toward senior leadership, including:

  • Responsibility for client relationships and project delivery.

  • Involvement in growing a hydrology/modelling function beyond the existing Sheffield base.

  • Opportunity to shape and mentor junior team members.

  • Flexibility in working arrangements for the right candidate.

  • Exposure to a wide range of impactful projects, particularly in the residential development sector.

🛠️ Role Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers in delivering high-quality technical outputs.

  • Prepare and lead Flood Risk Assessments and modelling reports.

  • Conduct site walkovers and survey-related tasks.

  • Deliver hydrological assessments using industry-standard methodologies.

  • Build and run hydraulic models; training can be provided if needed.

  • Stabilise and calibrate hydraulic models.

  • Consult with water regulators, stakeholders, and statutory authorities.

  • Guide and support junior consultants.

  • Assist in managing budgets and timescales with oversight from senior leadership.
