About Profile

An enthusiastic early-career Assistant Ecologist / Ornithologist based in York, with a strong academic background and practical consultancy experience, who is now looking for a permanent opportunity where they can progress and develop a long-term specialism in ornithology.

Currently working within environmental consultancy, they have gained hands-on experience undertaking ecological surveys, producing technical reports, completing desk studies and data analysis, supporting mitigation and enhancement work, and liaising with clients, landowners and contractors.

Their particular strength and career interest is ornithology, with practical experience including breeding bird surveys, non-breeding, passage and wintering bird surveys, nesting bird checks and bird ringing. They also hold a BTO Trainee Ringing Permit.

Alongside ornithology, they offer broader ecological experience including bat surveys, water vole and mink surveys, GCN eDNA and bottle trapping, QGIS, EcIA reporting and ecological data analysis using RStudio and Excel.

They hold a First Class BSc (Hons) in Zoology, with research focused specifically on bird populations, and are a Qualifying Member of CIEEM.

Location: York
Current salary: £25,000 + bonus
Salary sought: From £27,500
