About the Role

With nature and biodiversity at the heart of their work, our client delivers projects that go beyond compliance, creating spaces where wildlife can thrive. They work across sectors including residential, education, visitor destinations, and habitat restoration, ensuring ecological considerations shape every stage of a project.

The Ecology Director leads a talented team of ecologists undertaking work for a wide variety of clients in the private and public sectors, working in close collaboration with in-house landscape architects and civil engineers to deliver truly integrated, nature-led design solutions.

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside an experienced Senior Ecologist, Consultant Ecologist, and the Ecology Director to deliver robust ecological advice, surveys, and reporting. You’ll be involved in a diverse range of habitats and species work, contributing to projects that aim for meaningful biodiversity enhancement and nature recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support field surveys for protected species, habitats, and ecological assessments.

  • Carry out Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA).

  • Provide technical ecological input into planning applications and other statutory processes.

  • Produce clear, high-quality ecological reports and mapping outputs.

  • Work closely with other disciplines to integrate ecological requirements into project design from the outset.

  • Mentor and support junior team members in survey work, reporting, and career development.

  • Keep up to date with ecological legislation, guidance, and best practice.

About You

  • Experienced in ecological consultancy with a strong track record in both fieldwork and reporting.

  • Degree in Ecology or related discipline.

  • Detailed knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, policy, and best practice survey techniques.

  • Protected species licence (at least one) and experience in mitigation design.

  • Strong understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Net Benefit for Biodiversity in Wales.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

  • Member of CIEEM or CIWEM.

  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate complex ecological matters clearly.
