About the Role

This is a genuine opportunity to become part of the foundations of a developing consultancy, helping shape both the ecology function and the wider direction of the business. The company already works with clients across central and local government, supporting major infrastructure and highways projects throughout the South East, with a strong pipeline of ongoing work.

The consultancy provides environmental, ecological and arboricultural support across infrastructure, development and environmental management projects, with a strong focus on practical, proportionate advice that helps clients manage environmental risk and keep projects moving through planning and construction. Their work spans highways, rail, utilities, waterways, industrial estates, local authorities and housing developments.

The opportunity

This role would suit an experienced ecologist looking for more influence, responsibility and long-term progression within a growing consultancy environment.

You will play a key role in delivering technical ecology work across a varied portfolio of projects, whilst also helping to shape ecological strategy, client relationships and future growth.

The position offers a hybrid working structure, combining home working, office collaboration and field-based survey work across the South East.

The role

Responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Leading and coordinating ecological surveys and fieldwork
  • Producing and reviewing technical reports including PEAs, EcIAs and protected species documentation
  • Supporting licensing and mitigation strategies
  • Acting as a technical lead across infrastructure and development projects
  • Advising clients and project teams on ecological risk and compliance
  • Liaising with stakeholders, regulators and multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting project delivery through planning and construction phases
  • Helping contribute to the continued growth and development of the consultancy

About you

The consultancy is specifically looking for an experienced ecologist rather than a junior-level candidate.

You are likely to have:

  • Experience working within ecological consultancy
  • At least one protected species licence, with additional licences highly desirable
  • Strong report writing and project delivery experience
  • Confidence managing surveys, clients and technical outputs
  • Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy
  • A practical and solutions-focused approach
  • A full UK driving licence

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys variety, autonomy and the opportunity to have a meaningful impact within a growing business.

Why consider this opportunity?

  • Opportunity to join at an early growth stage and help shape the future direction of the business
  • Exposure to significant infrastructure and highways projects
  • Strong pipeline of public sector and environmental work
  • Hybrid and flexible working approach
  • Opportunity to broaden technical and strategic responsibilities
  • Collaborative and pragmatic working culture focused on delivery and environmental outcomes

At Ocean to Earth Recruitment, we work with the values of respect, integrity and growth. We partner with consultancies and environmental businesses that genuinely invest in people, long-term development and meaningful project work.
