About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is supporting a long established independent environmental consultancy in the search for a Principal Planning Consultant to join its specialist team.

With more than 35 years of experience advising public and private sector clients, this consultancy has developed a strong reputation for delivering technically robust, commercially aware environmental and planning solutions across the UK. Their work spans minerals, waste, infrastructure and environmental development projects, supporting clients through complex planning, permitting and Environmental Impact Assessment processes.

The business is known for combining high technical standards with a practical and collaborative approach. 

This role would suit an experienced planning professional who enjoys managing technically demanding projects and working closely with clients, regulators and multidisciplinary teams.

The Role

You will play a key role in the delivery of planning and environmental projects across the minerals, waste and wider environmental sectors, working alongside experienced technical specialists on nationally significant and complex developments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting senior leadership on planning strategy and project delivery
• Leading and contributing to planning and environmental projects across multiple sectors
• Managing Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Statements
• Coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams and external specialists
• Managing planning applications and Development Consent Order processes
• Providing practical advice on UK planning policy and environmental legislation
• Liaising with clients, regulators, stakeholders and statutory consultees
• Managing multiple projects, budgets and delivery programmes simultaneously
• Supporting business development activities and strengthening client relationships

About You

• Previous experience within minerals and waste planning is essential
• Strong understanding of UK planning legislation and environmental policy
• Renewable energy project experience would be advantageous
• Excellent report writing and communication skills
• Strong project management and organisational capability
• Comfortable working within technically detailed and fast-paced consultancy environments
• Degree qualified in planning or a related discipline
• Membership of RTPI, CIWM, ISEP or a similar professional body
• Full UK driving licence
