About the Role

At Ocean to Earth Recruitment, we're thrilled to be supporting a leading environmental consultancy in their search for a Senior Ecological Consultant to join their Birmingham-based team. This is an exciting opportunity to take a pivotal role within a thriving, dynamic organisation that's delivering a wide range of environmental services across the UK.

The Role

As a Senior Ecological Consultant, you will lead on complex ecological projects, shape strategies, and provide expert guidance to both internal teams and external stakeholders. You'll be instrumental in project delivery, business development, and team management – while helping to ensure high ecological standards across all outputs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage large, complex terrestrial ecology projects from inception to delivery.

  • Oversee the preparation of EPSL applications, EcIA chapters, and Habitat Regulation Assessments.

  • Produce high-quality reports and technical outputs, consistently meeting client expectations and deadlines.

  • Line manage and mentor a team of consultants and assistant ecologists, supporting their development and field performance.

  • Maintain and grow strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring continued engagement.

  • Contribute to tenders and proposals, bringing a commercial awareness to project planning and budgeting.

  • Document and utilise relevant professional experience to support applications for protected species licences.

  • Maintain professional membership with CIEEM and uphold industry standards.

What We're Looking For

  • A degree in ecology or a closely related discipline.

  • Substantial experience working in ecological consultancy, particularly terrestrial ecology.

  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, ecological best practice, and habitat/species survey techniques.

  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more ecological specialisms, ideally holding protected species licences.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and inspire project teams.

  • Proficiency in producing technical reports and delivering client-facing outputs.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.

  • Right to work in the UK.

What’s On Offer

Our client is committed to offering an exceptional working environment where team members are supported, recognised, and provided with career growth opportunities.

Benefits include:

  • 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)

  • Healthcare cash plan

  • Enhanced pension scheme

  • Life insurance

  • Paid professional memberships

  • Clothing allowance and equipment support

  • Long service awards and performance-based rewards

  • Discounted gym memberships

  • Free parking and regular social events

  • Flexible hybrid working and a strong emphasis on work-life balance

  • Access to industry-accredited training and in-house development
