About the Role

Are you a seasoned archaeologist ready to move into a strategic, client-facing role within a forward-thinking and collaborative consultancy?

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is proud to partner with a long-standing, values-driven environmental consultancy to appoint a Project Manager – Archaeology. With over three decades of heritage expertise across the UK, this team is passionate about delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions while nurturing a culture that empowers its people.

Based in Sheffield, with hybrid working options and offices nationwide, our client offers the best of both worlds—local insight with national impact. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a company where your work contributes to real-world environmental and heritage outcomes.

Why This Role?

Whether you're already operating at project manager level or looking to transition into a more senior delivery and client-led position, this role offers the chance to grow in a supportive environment where collaboration and integrity come first.

You’ll be part of a well-respected, multidisciplinary team managing a broad portfolio of archaeological and environmental projects. From mentoring junior colleagues to liaising directly with clients and overseeing fieldwork, you’ll play a key role in delivering projects that make a real difference.

Our client invests in their team’s success—with flexible working, professional development, mentoring, and a strong wellbeing ethos. If you're looking for a role with purpose, impact, and room to grow, this is the place to do it.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver archaeological projects from initial quotation to completion, ensuring time, budget, and quality targets are met.

  • Play an active role in business development and cross-sector collaboration.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying new opportunities for growth.

  • Oversee and attend site-based projects, coordinating teams, subcontractors, and resources.

  • Ensure legal, procedural, and professional compliance across all project stages.

  • Contribute to internal systems through accurate record-keeping, reporting, and invoicing.

  • Deliver public and community engagement activities such as lectures or events.

  • Line manage and mentor designated staff, supporting career development and training.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to address resource gaps and project needs.

  • Embody and promote company values: collaboration, professionalism, inclusivity, and integrity.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong archaeological fieldwork and project management experience, ideally within the UK.

  • Familiarity with UK planning policy, legislation, and heritage regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary projects and lead teams.

  • Confident in developing client relationships and spotting commercial opportunities.

  • Experience mentoring or training early-career professionals.

  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solution-focused mindset.

  • An inclusive and team-first approach to leadership and project delivery.

What’s on Offer:

  • Join a mission-led team where your contribution genuinely matters.

  • Work on diverse, high-impact archaeological and environmental projects across the UK.

  • Flexible and hybrid working, with a strong commitment to work-life balance.

  • Professional development, mentoring, and clear progression pathways.

  • Collaborative, inclusive team culture that values honesty, openness, and support.

  • Competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
