About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is proud to be working with an innovative and fast-growing organisation at the forefront of the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) movement. Our client is transforming underused land across England into ecologically rich, lasting habitats. By managing these sites over the long term, they generate high-integrity BNG units that benefit developers, support local authorities, and sustain the landowners who make it all possible.

This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior leadership role at a pioneering business redefining ecological restoration. If you're ready to shape the future of UK conservation while building your own legacy, this is the role for you.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Head of Ecology to join a dynamic London-based team. This role offers the chance to influence strategy, lead a growing team of in-house ecologists, and play a pivotal part in delivering best-in-class BNG habitat banks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the internal ecology team, ensuring project deadlines and quality standards are consistently met.

  • Report directly to senior leadership and the Board, providing regular updates and strategic input.

  • Develop and deliver detailed reports, including Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans and Biodiversity Gain Plans.

  • Oversee fieldwork and ecological assessments, providing technical mentorship to junior staff.

  • Engage with DEFRA, Natural England, Local Planning Authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Spearhead the client’s expansion into alternative Natural Capital markets.

  • Provide expert insight into habitat design, ecological monitoring, and long-term management strategies.

About You

  • Full Member of CIEEM.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in field ecology and ecological leadership.

  • Strong background in BNG, with knowledge of Statutory Metric, relevant legislation, and policy frameworks.

  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage multi-stakeholder engagement.

  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

  • Strong botanical identification skills and experience conducting standardized quadrat and transect surveys.

  • Proficient in GIS, ecological modelling tools, and standard office software.

  • Holds a valid UK driving licence and is open to travel and site-based work.

Additional Information

  • Based at the company’s head office in Camden, with frequent opportunities for fieldwork.

  • Numerous perks available through a shared workspace in LABS Camden.

  • Join a mission-driven, entrepreneurial business during an exciting period of rapid growth and impact.
