About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ecological professional to take a key role within a respected, multidisciplinary team.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a driven, dedicated and self-motivated ecologist to join a well-established consultancy and contribute to its continued success. The successful candidate will play a lead role in project management, client liaison, and technical delivery, while also providing guidance to junior team members.

Based at the Farncombe office, this position offers a hybrid working arrangement — ideally attending the office a couple of days each week, but with flexibility for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver a range of complex ecological projects, from inception through to completion.

  • Liaise confidently with clients, planning authorities, and statutory consultees such as Natural England.

  • Produce and coordinate technical documentation, including Ecological Impact Assessments, ES Chapters, and related reports.

  • Oversee and contribute to field surveys across a wide range of taxa and habitats.

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.

About You

We’re looking for a proactive and adaptable individual who thrives on challenge and takes initiative in tackling new tasks or project types. The ideal candidate will bring a well-rounded ecological skillset, strong technical competence, and excellent communication skills.

Essential experience:

  • Proven background managing ecological or environmental projects.

  • Strong technical writing skills (EIAs, EcIAs, ES Chapters).

  • Confident client liaison and stakeholder communication.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.

Desirable experience:

  • Line management or mentoring experience (beneficial but not essential).

  • Botanical expertise (UKHab / NVC methodologies).

  • Experience leading protected species surveys (Great Crested Newt, bats, Badger, Dormouse, reptiles).

  • Familiarity with DEFRA Metrics and QGIS.

  • EPS licences (advantageous).

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

  • Hybrid and flexible working options.

  • Opportunity to work on diverse, high-profile projects.

  • Supportive, collaborative team environment.

  • Excellent scope for career progression.
