Right now, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Ecologist (or Consultant/Principal-level professional) to join our client’s dynamic and friendly team based near Baldock, Hertfordshire.

🌱 About the Role

Location: Ashwell (near Baldock), Hertfordshire
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: £35,000 – £42,000 (for Senior Ecologist level, depending on experience)

This role offers the opportunity to work across disciplines – from ecology to landscape design, archaeology, and masterplanning – supporting clients at every stage of a project, from strategy through to implementation.

You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality work, supporting and mentoring junior colleagues, and developing long-term client relationships.


🔍 Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and coordinating a variety of ecology projects

  • Overseeing and delivering PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs, and BNG assessments

  • Designing and implementing species surveys and mitigation strategies

  • Acting as a senior point of contact for clients and stakeholders

  • Supporting and developing junior team members


🧬 About You

We’re looking for passionate and technically skilled ecologists who are ready to take the next step in their career. If you’re proactive, organised, and driven by a genuine enthusiasm for the natural world, we’d love to hear from you.

Essential:

  • Degree in ecology or related subject (2:1 or above preferred)

  • Practical experience with protected species surveys and licences

  • Habitat and botanical survey skills (UKHab familiarity desirable)

  • Good knowledge of UK wildlife legislation

  • Strong communication and report writing skills

  • Confident using MS Office and QGIS

  • Full UK driving licence and own car insured for business use

  • Willing to carry out night surveys during peak season (with overnight stays as needed)

  • ACIEEM or higher

Desirable:

  • Strong technical specialism (e.g. bats, birds, or botany)

  • Level 2 bat licence

  • FISC Level 3 or above
