About the Role

Join Our Client’s South West Team – A 4-Day Working Week with Fridays Off!

Our client is looking for a dynamic and commercially minded Operational Lead to head the South West Ecology team. With offices in Bristol, Exeter, and Cardiff, you’ll work closely with Operational Leads in London, Birmingham, and Manchester under the guidance of the Regional Ecology Directors for the South and North. Collaboration is key, as you’ll also liaise with technical leads and the wider business to deliver an impactful ecology strategy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced leader with a proven track record in the ecology or planning industry. You’ll be instrumental in team leadership, pipeline review, sales, and business development – all while enjoying a 4-day working week with Fridays off!

The role is based out of our client’s Bristol office, with occasional visits to Exeter and Cardiff.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Regional Ecology Director (South) to meet targets for the South West team as part of the annual Ecology Strategy and overall business strategy.
  • Analyze operational data, including pipeline, opportunities, and sales actions, to support the South West team.
  • Collaborate on HR decisions, recruitment, and subcontractor management alongside the Regional Ecology Director (South) and HR lead.
  • Coordinate workload across the South West region with the central resource coordination team.
  • Partner with Technical Leads to ensure proper technical support and address skills gaps.
  • Complete monthly operational reports for the South West Ecology team.
  • Collaborate with other Operational Leads to address challenges and ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Align sales efforts with operational and technical needs by working with regional sales representatives.
  • Provide project support as a Project Manager and Project Director, mentoring junior project managers on complex projects.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking someone who:

  • Can take a proactive leadership role in the South West, mentoring team members and project managers.
  • Communicates confidently and embodies values of honesty, care, belonging, opportunity, and enjoyment.
  • Holds a degree in ecology or biological sciences.
  • Has exceptional attention to detail in reviewing data, problem-solving, and scrutinizing written work.
  • Understands legislative and planning policy frameworks within the ecology industry.
  • Is enthusiastic and engaging with peers, clients, and collaborators.
  • Is committed to innovation and excellence in client delivery, including exploring new sectors.
  • Is a full member of CIEEM, or a Chartered Ecologist (or working towards Chartership).
  • Possesses a full UK driving license.
