About Profile
a GIS Analyst and Ecologist in Glasgow, currently earning £53,000 but would be flexible, with over a decade of experience applying geospatial data and environmental modelling to real-world challenges across renewable energy, forestry, and land management. He brings a thoughtful balance of technical depth and practical understanding, with a strong track record of translating complex spatial datasets into clear, decision-ready insights for planning, infrastructure, and environmental assessment.
His work sits at the intersection of GIS, climate science, and applied ecology.
In his current role within ecological consultancy, he leads ecological assessments including EcIA, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) evaluations. His work involves detailed habitat and tree mapping using UKHab and BS5837 standards, supported by ArcGIS Pro and Python-based workflows. He produces high-quality spatial datasets and cartographic outputs for planning submissions, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure GIS outputs are effectively integrated into environmental reports and decision-making processes.
He is particularly strong in designing efficient, scalable GIS workflows, combining tools such as ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and ArcGIS Online with Python, PostGIS, and ETL pipelines to manage and analyse large spatial datasets. In previous roles, he has developed machine learning-enabled GIS siting tools for solar energy projects, significantly improving site selection efficiency and data processing performance. He is looking to move to incorporate more of the following into his role:
- GIS / Geospatial Analysis and spatial data science
- Climate risk modelling, particularly drought and wildfire
- Integration of field data (ecology / forestry / land use) with spatial modelling and forecasting
- also interested in roles with a higher field-work aspect
- Sectors such as forestry, renewable energy, land management, and environmental planning
