About the Role

We're working with a forward-thinking environmental consultancy that’s looking to welcome a Senior Ecologist to their team. If you’re someone who enjoys getting stuck into meaningful work, leading with purpose, and mentoring others along the way — this could be the role for you.

Why this role?

This isn’t your typical 9-5 consultancy setup. You’ll be joining a business that genuinely values balance, offers a 4-day working week (on full pay), and encourages honest conversations, collaboration, and career growth.

You’ll be a key figure in a well-established ecology team — working closely with colleagues in landscape and arboriculture — delivering exciting, varied projects that make a real difference on the ground.

What you'll be doing day-to-day:

  • Managing and delivering ecological projects across a range of sectors

  • Building trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders

  • Carrying out Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments

  • Leading on Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and Habitat Regulations Assessments

  • Designing, managing and reviewing protected species surveys and mitigation strategies

  • Supporting junior team members with mentoring and development

  • Contributing to business development and winning new work

It’s a varied role where no two days are the same — you might be out on site one day and collaborating on strategy or mentoring junior ecologists the next.

What we’re looking for:

  • A strong background in ecology or biological sciences

  • Membership of CIEEM (ideally working toward Chartership)

  • Solid understanding of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy

  • Strong technical skills in habitat and species surveys, particularly UKHab

  • One or more protected species licences would be a bonus

  • A confident communicator — written and spoken — with experience dealing with clients and planning authorities

  • Someone who’s comfortable managing projects from start to finish, including timelines and budgets

  • A team player who enjoys lifting others up and working across disciplines

  • A full UK driving licence

What’s in it for you?

  • 4-day working week on a 5-day salary (yes, really)

  • A culture that values people, not just productivity

  • A team that celebrates wins and supports each other when it matters

  • Freedom to grow your own client base and shape your own role

  • Interesting, impactful projects that keep you on your toes

If you're a Senior Ecologist ready for your next step — somewhere you can lead, grow, and still have time to breathe — we’d love to hear from you.
