About the Role

A creative, design-led landscape architecture and urban design consultancy is seeking a Senior Consultant or Associate to lead and grow its Strategic Landscape Planning, Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA), and Townscape and Visual Impact Assessment (TVIA) offer.

This is a pivotal role for an experienced landscape planning professional who wants to help shape and grow a strategic service area, contribute to high-profile projects, and support business development across regeneration, strategic land and infrastructure sectors.

About the Practice

The successful candidate will join a creative design consultancy specialising in landscape architecture and urban design, with studios in Leeds, Manchester and Edinburgh. The practice creates enduring, well-used places grounded in a deep understanding of place identity, community values and sustainability. With a thoughtful, engaging and imaginative approach, the team strives to design environments that stand the test of time and support natural systems and social life.

The Role

You will take a leadership position in delivering and expanding landscape planning services, working across a wide range of sectors and scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic landscape planning services including LVIA, TVIA and related technical assessments for planning applications and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).

  • Maintain and enhance methodology, templates, quality assurance processes and technical standards to reflect evolving legislation and best practice approaches.

  • Manage and review report production, ensuring technical rigour, clarity and design excellence.

  • Collaborate closely with internal design, planning and project teams to integrate assessment outcomes into design solutions.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support for emerging team members.

  • Contribute to new business activity and strengthen relationships with planning consultants, architects, developers and strategic land promoters.

  • Support practice promotion externally, including potential participation in professional forums and advisory groups.

Essential Experience & Skills

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience delivering LVIA and TVIA work in the UK planning context.

  • Strong understanding of GLVIA3 and relevant planning policy frameworks.

  • Local awareness of planning policy, allocated land and forthcoming developments relevant to LPAs near Leeds and Manchester.

  • Excellent written, analytical and graphical communication skills.

  • Experience contributing to EIA chapters and high-quality technical reporting.

  • Confidence in client-facing roles and strong relationship-building skills.

  • Competence in GIS or other spatial analysis tools.

  • A demonstrable ability to lead, manage and mentor others.

What’s on Offer

  • A collaborative, supportive studio culture with an emphasis on great design and teamwork.

  • Hybrid working arrangements to support work-life balance.

  • The chance to shape and grow an important strategic service area.

  • Investment in your professional development and a role that values your voice in the future direction of the practice.

  • A creative, empathetic and progressive working environment where people and places matter.

If you’re passionate about strategic landscape planning and want to help shape meaningful places across the UK, we’d love to hear from you.
