Project Engineer – Geo-Environmental Services
Meet Our Recruiter
About the Role
This role is about progression—deliberate, supported, and earned.
You’ll join as someone who already understands the fundamentals of geo-environmental or geotechnical work. But what makes this role compelling is where it takes you:
-
From executing fieldwork → to owning investigations
-
From interpreting data → to shaping site strategy
-
From supporting projects → to driving delivery conversations
-
From working toward chartership → to being actively supported to achieve it
This is the point in your career where things begin to connect—the science, the risk, the commercial reality—and you start to see the bigger picture.
What You’ll Be Trusted With
You’ll sit at the heart of project delivery, balancing time between site, office, and collaboration.
In the field, you’ll:
-
Plan and lead ground investigations
-
Oversee soil, groundwater, and gas sampling
-
Work closely with subcontractors, ensuring quality and safety on site
With data, you’ll:
-
Schedule chemical and geotechnical testing
-
Interpret results with growing confidence and independence
-
Contribute to Phase 1 and Phase 2 assessments
-
Build conceptual site models and begin shaping remediation thinking
On projects, you’ll:
-
Work alongside experienced Principal Engineers and Associates
-
Support budgets, programmes, and documentation
-
Be part of real project conversations—not just observing them
And importantly, you’ll:
-
Help maintain strong health & safety standards, including RAMS
-
Collaborate across teams and disciplines
-
Progress toward chartership with genuine backing
The Kind of Engineer Who Thrives Here
This role suits someone who is no longer “new”—but not yet finished growing.
You’ll likely have:
-
A BSc or MSc in a relevant environmental or geotechnical discipline
-
Around 2–4 years’ consultancy experience
-
Confidence in fieldwork, and curiosity in interpretation
-
Strong technical writing and communication skills
-
A UK driving licence (or working toward one)
More than that, you’ll recognise yourself in this:
You want to understand why—not just what.
You want more responsibility, but in the right environment.
You’re thinking about chartership, and you want it to be realistic—not just talked about.
Why This Role — Why Now
There’s a particular moment in an engineering career where the next move really matters.
Too early, and you risk being stretched without support.
Too late, and you risk plateauing.
This opportunity sits in that exact sweet spot.
Our client offers:
-
A clear pathway toward technical and project ownership
-
Exposure to a wide range of geo-environmental challenges
-
A culture where development is structured, not accidental
-
A team that values sound judgement as much as technical ability
A Final Word
At Ocean to Earth Recruitment, we speak to a lot of engineers at this level.
The common thread? They’re ready, but they’re careful about where they step next.
If you’re looking for a role where your progression is intentional, your work is meaningful, and your development is taken seriously—this is worth a conversation.
