The Opportunity

If you enjoy the technical and written side of ecology just as much as getting out into the field, this could be a particularly good next step.

We’re looking for an Ecologist to join a large, collaborative ecology team in the Cotswolds. The opportunity would suit someone who takes pride in producing clear, well-considered ecological reports and wants to keep developing their technical knowledge alongside varied fieldwork.

You’ll be surrounded by experienced ecologists with plenty of opportunity to collaborate, learn from senior colleagues and gradually take greater ownership of projects as your experience grows.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a varied consultancy role combining ecological fieldwork, technical reporting and project delivery.

A significant part of your work will involve taking ecological information gathered through surveys and assessments and communicating it through accurate, well-structured reports. Alongside this, you’ll continue building your field experience and gradually take on greater project responsibility.

You’ll be involved in:

• Producing and contributing to BNG reports, Ecological Assessments, briefing notes, habitat management plans and Environmental Statement chapters.

• Undertaking UKHab assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain condition assessments and protected species surveys.

• Supporting project delivery and managing your own projects where appropriate to your experience.

• Undertaking Ecological Clerk of Works duties and supporting seasonal survey teams.

• Developing your understanding of Ecological Impact Assessment and Habitat Regulations Assessment.

• Working collaboratively with ecologists and other environmental professionals across a range of projects.

About You

This opportunity is likely to suit an Ecologist who genuinely enjoys writing and is confident communicating technical ecological information clearly.

You may already be working within an ecological or environmental consultancy and be looking for somewhere you can strengthen your reporting skills while continuing to develop as a field ecologist.

You’ll ideally bring some professional ecology experience, including habitat or protected species survey work and experience producing or contributing to ecological reports. A good understanding of UK ecological legislation and guidance will also be important.

Strong written English is particularly valuable for this role, as is the ability to work independently while still enjoying being part of a collaborative team.

Experience with botanical identification, Microsoft Office and QGIS or similar ecological software would be useful. You’ll also need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Location & Flexibility

The role is based in the Cotswolds, with hybrid working available.

As you’d expect from an ecology consultancy role, there will be travel to project sites and some seasonal fieldwork. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are therefore required.
