About the Role

Heritage Consultant

The Opportunity

If you enjoy helping shape the future of historic places while ensuring their significance is understood and respected, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

We're working with a well-established planning and heritage consultancy that's looking to grow its heritage team. Whether you're ready to take the next step in your career or you're already an experienced Heritage Consultant looking for greater autonomy and a broader range of projects, you'll have the opportunity to work on developments that genuinely influence the built environment.

From advising on listed buildings and conservation areas to supporting complex planning applications, you'll become a trusted advisor to clients and colleagues alike, working on projects that balance commercial ambition with the protection of our historic environment.

The Company

This independent consultancy has built an excellent reputation for delivering planning and heritage advice across the UK. Their work spans commercial, residential, leisure and mixed-use developments, supporting a diverse client base ranging from private developers and landowners to public sector organisations.

The heritage team works closely alongside experienced planners, creating a collaborative environment where specialist advice is valued from the earliest stages of a project. It's a business that combines technical excellence with a friendly, supportive culture, giving people the freedom to develop their careers while making a meaningful contribution to every project.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll take ownership of a varied portfolio of heritage projects, providing expert advice throughout the planning process. Your work will include:

  • Preparing Heritage Statements, Archaeological Desk-Based Assessments and Impact Assessments.

  • Assessing the significance of historic buildings, landscapes and other heritage assets.

  • Advising clients on planning policy, heritage legislation and conservation best practice.

  • Working alongside planners, architects, developers and local authorities to find practical solutions.

  • Supporting planning appeals and providing expert heritage input where required.

  • Building trusted client relationships and helping develop new opportunities for the business.

  • Mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to the continued growth of the heritage team.

No two projects are the same, offering plenty of variety and the opportunity to broaden your experience across a wide range of sectors.

About You

You'll probably have experience working within a heritage or planning consultancy, local authority or similar environment and enjoy combining technical expertise with practical, commercially minded advice.

You'll be comfortable preparing heritage reports, interpreting planning policy and communicating confidently with clients and stakeholders. You enjoy managing your own workload, building long-term relationships and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Membership of the IHBC or CIfA would be welcomed but isn't essential if you have the relevant experience and are working towards professional accreditation.

What's on Offer

Alongside a competitive salary, you'll benefit from:

  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

  • A supportive, collaborative team environment.

  • Interesting projects across commercial, residential and mixed-use development.

  • Genuine opportunities for career progression as the heritage team continues to grow.

  • Ongoing professional development, training and support towards professional memberships.

  • A comprehensive benefits package.

Location & Flexibility

This role is based in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, with hybrid working available. Both full-time and part-time applications will be considered, offering flexibility to suit different working preferences.

Interested?

If you're passionate about heritage and enjoy helping clients navigate complex planning challenges while protecting our historic environment, we'd love to hear from you.

Whether you're actively looking or simply curious about what else is out there, feel free to get in touch for a confidential conversation. We'd be happy to tell you more about the opportunity and help you decide if it could be the right next step for your career.
