About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a thriving, employee-owned ecological consultancy that has been established for over 20 years. This values-driven organisation is built around excellence, integrity, and well-being, and continues to go from strength to strength with a buoyant workload and loyal client base across multiple sectors.

As an Employee-Owned Trust (EOT), every team member shares in the company’s success — with significant annual profit bonuses distributed to all employees. The culture is open, collaborative, and empowering, offering flexibility and trust at every level — including 4-day working weeks, hybrid options, and genuine TOIL flexibility.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a respected consultancy that combines commercial success with a clear ethical and environmental purpose.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Ecologist to join the team based near Exeter, overlooking the beautiful River Clyst estuary. The successful candidate will lead complex ecological projects, mentor and inspire a talented team of ecologists, and strengthen relationships with clients and partners across a diverse range of projects.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a supportive, values-led environment and is ready to contribute to both business growth and positive environmental outcomes.

What’s on Offer

  • A values-driven, employee-owned company where everyone shares in success

  • High annual profit bonuses through the Employee Ownership Trust

  • Flexible working, including hybrid options and 4-day weeks

  • Excellent TOIL policy and work-life balance focus

  • A thriving company with a buoyant pipeline of projects

  • Three paid volunteer days per year for a cause you care about

  • Competitive salary and pension

  • Opportunities for professional development, mentoring, and training

  • A supportive, inclusive, and genuinely friendly team culture

What You’ll Need

  • A relevant degree in ecology or related discipline

  • Proven professional experience (Senior level or above)

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Confidence preparing technical reports (EcIA, HRA, BNG, ES chapters, EMPs, etc.)

  • Commercial awareness and an interest in business development

  • Full CIEEM membership (Chartered status desirable)

  • Full UK driving licence

If you’re passionate about delivering excellence in ecological consultancy within a flexible, people-first, employee-owned business — we’d love to hear from you.
