The Opportunity
This role is perfect for an experienced environmental leader who enjoys combining technical excellence, people leadership, and business development. You will lead water and environmental impact assessments across projects including:

Onshore wind
-
Solar
-
Hydropower
-
Transport infrastructure
-
Strategic development sites
You’ll work closely with the senior leadership team to grow a successful consultancy, while mentoring the next generation of environmental professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
-
Act as Project Executive for major water and environmental assessments.
-
Provide technical oversight, quality assurance, and governance across EIA delivery.
-
Lead and review outputs including:
-
Hydrology, hydrogeology & geology EIA chapters
-
Peat surveys, management plans & landslide risk assessments
-
Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments
-
Carbon balance & water quality modelling
-
Surface water management & pollution prevention
-
Geomorphology & groundwater ecology assessments
-
-
Be a recognised authority in at least one specialist area such as:
-
Peat management
-
Water quality
-
Aquatic ecology
-
River restoration
-
Geomorphology
-
Contaminated land
-
People & Culture
-
Line manage technical staff and support progression toward CIWEM, IEMA, or ICE chartership.

Lead performance reviews and personal development planning.
-
Build a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
Business Development & Work Winning
-
Lead bids and proposals up to £100k.
-
Develop and implement a sector growth and marketing strategy.
-
Manage delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
-
Play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the business.
Future Progression
This role offers a defined pathway to Company Director, with responsibility for leading a sector of the consultancy and contributing at board level to long-term business strategy.
About You
-
Chartered (or close to chartered) with CIWEM, IEMA, or ICE
-
Strong background in hydrology, water resources, peatland, or environmental impact assessment
-
Proven people leadership experience
-
Commercially aware with business development capability
-
Confident working with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams
