About the Role

The Opportunity

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with a highly regarded independent UK property consultancy to appoint a Senior or Associate Chartered Building Surveyor to its established Bristol team.

This is an opportunity to join a business with more than a century of experience in the property sector, combining the reputation, expertise and project variety of a major consultancy with the autonomy and personal approach of an independent firm.

You will work across a diverse commercial property portfolio, managing your own projects and developing trusted client relationships. There is also plenty of scope to broaden your technical experience, mentor others and become increasingly involved in business development and the future growth of the Building Surveying service.

For an ambitious Building Surveyor, this offers a strong platform for long-term progression.

The Role

Your work will provide a broad mix of professional and project Building Surveying, rather than restricting you to one particular specialism.

Depending on your experience, responsibilities will include:

  • Condition, maintenance and pre-acquisition surveys

  • Technical due diligence and defect diagnosis

  • Dilapidations, including preparing and negotiating Schedules of Dilapidations

  • Reinstatement cost assessments

  • Refurbishment, renovation, repair and improvement projects

  • Preparing specifications, schedules of work and technical reports

  • Project management and contract administration from inception to completion

  • Budgeting, procurement and contractor management

  • Acting as Employer's Agent where required

  • Party Wall matters and neighbourly advice

  • CDM Principal Designer and CDM advisory responsibilities

  • Measured surveys and the preparation or oversight of CAD drawings and plans

  • Advising clients on Building Regulations, property maintenance, lease obligations and environmental requirements

You will work directly with clients and collaborate with consultants, contractors, local authorities and other professional teams.

At Associate level, you will also take a greater role in client development, fee proposals, team performance, mentoring and identifying opportunities for new and repeat business.

About You

You will be an MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor who enjoys taking ownership of projects and building strong professional relationships with clients.

For the Senior Building Surveyor position, you will ideally have 3+ years' post-qualification experience, with a good grounding across professional and/or project Building Surveying.

For the Associate Building Surveyor position, you will ideally have 5+ years' post-qualification experience, together with experience leading projects, managing clients and supporting more junior colleagues.

You will also bring:

  • Strong technical Building Surveying knowledge

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills

  • Commercial awareness and an interest in developing client relationships

  • Good project, budget and time management skills

  • Confidence working independently while contributing to a collaborative team

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical ability

  • A proactive approach to developing your career and professional expertise

  • An interest in mentoring and sharing knowledge with junior colleagues

A valid UK driving licence is required.

The Company

You will be joining an established, independent and highly respected property consultancy with a history spanning more than 100 years.

The business advises organisations across the UK and has built long-standing relationships with investors, developers, property owners, businesses and public sector clients.

Its multidisciplinary structure means you will work alongside experienced professionals across different areas of commercial property, providing exposure to wider expertise and opportunities to collaborate on varied and interesting instructions.

Despite its established reputation and national reach, the business retains the personal approach of an independent consultancy. Senior professionals remain involved with clients and projects, and people are encouraged to take responsibility, develop relationships and contribute ideas.

There is a strong emphasis on professional quality, collaboration, knowledge sharing and long-term client relationships, making this a particularly good environment for someone looking to build a lasting career rather than simply make their next move.

Location and Flexibility

The position will be based within the Bristol office, joining an established team with a strong presence across Bristol, the South West and wider UK property market.

There will be travel to client sites and projects as required, alongside occasional visits to other offices.

The nature of the role provides a good combination of office-based collaboration, client interaction and time out on site, with variety from week to week.

What's on Offer

This is an opportunity to develop your career within a respected consultancy while retaining plenty of autonomy over your projects and client relationships.

You can expect:

  • A Senior or Associate-level position depending on your experience

  • A varied portfolio of professional and project Building Surveying work

  • Exposure to established regional and national clients

  • The opportunity to manage projects from inception through to completion

  • Direct client contact and responsibility for developing relationships

  • A collaborative, multidisciplinary working environment

  • Support from experienced senior property professionals

  • Opportunities to mentor and develop junior surveyors

  • Involvement in business development and the continued growth of the service

  • Strong scope for further professional and career progression

  • The stability and reputation of a long-established consultancy combined with the autonomy of an independent business

If you are a Chartered Building Surveyor in Bristol or the surrounding area and would like greater ownership, varied work and a clear opportunity to continue progressing, we would be very happy to speak with you confidentially.

To apply, send your CV to vicky@oceantoearth.co.uk or contact Ocean to Earth Recruitment for an informal conversation about the opportunity.
