Senior Ecologist
Meet Our Recruiter
About the Role
Passionate about botany, habitats and biodiversity?
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with a small, friendly and growing ecological consultancy in Somerset, looking for an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist to join its team.
With a substantial pipeline of projects across the South West and an excellent reputation built on client relationships and recommendations, this is an opportunity to join an ambitious independent consultancy where your contribution will genuinely make a difference.
This isn't your typical protected species surveying role.
The consultancy specialises in botanical surveys, habitat assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and long-term habitat monitoring and management.
You'll enjoy a varied position combining technical reporting, ecological assessments, client advice and occasional fieldwork, with fewer night surveys and greater emphasis on habitat-focused ecology.
What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in Ecologists who:
-
Have around 3–4 years' consultancy experience or more.
-
Have a genuine enthusiasm for botany, habitat management and biodiversity.
-
Are confident managing projects and providing technical advice directly to clients.
-
Have experience with UKHab surveys, BNG assessments and ecological reporting.
-
Enjoy finding practical, commercially aware solutions to ecological challenges.
-
Want to develop their botanical identification skills and potentially work towards FISC accreditation.
You don't need to be an expert botanist already. A genuine interest in developing your botanical expertise is more important, with structured training and mentoring available.
Why Join?
-
£35,000–£42,000, depending on experience.
-
Hybrid working, typically 1–2 office days per week near Chilcompton, Somerset.
-
33 days' holiday, including bank holidays.
-
Life assurance and income protection.
-
Excellent training and professional development.
-
Opportunities to work with innovative ecological monitoring technologies.
-
Less intensive protected species surveying and more habitat-focused consultancy.
-
A supportive, friendly team where you'll work closely with experienced ecologists.
-
Genuine opportunities for career progression as the consultancy grows.
Interested?
If you're an Ecologist who enjoys the technical and advisory side of consultancy, has a real interest in botany and habitat management, and would like to join a growing business where you can develop your career, we'd love to hear from you.
