About the Role

At Ocean to Earth Recruitment, we are delighted to be working in partnership with a progressive and expanding ecology consultancy to appoint a Senior Ecologist. This opportunity offers the chance to join a supportive, forward-looking team where you will be trusted to manage your own work and continue developing your consultancy skills.

The Opportunity

This position provides a high degree of independence, with responsibility for managing projects from initial scoping and pricing through to delivery. You will be involved in a broad range of work, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Biodiversity Impact Assessments, protected species surveys, and Ecological Impact Assessments.

The business fosters a collaborative and encouraging environment, giving you the flexibility to broaden your experience or focus on developing a specialist area of interest. You will also play a part in supporting the ongoing growth of the consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage ecological projects from quotation through to completion
  • Carry out and oversee habitat and protected species surveys
  • Produce clear, high-quality technical reports
  • Design survey strategies and mitigation approaches
  • Coordinate fieldwork and lead survey teams
  • Contribute to tenders, proposals, and client communication

About You

You will be an experienced and proactive ecologist who is comfortable taking ownership of projects and working within a collaborative team:

  • Experience with UKHab or Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species work
  • Hold at least one protected species licence (e.g. bats, dormouse, GCN)
  • Proven ability to manage surveys and deliver projects
  • Strong report writing and technical skills
  • Experience preparing quotes and designing survey approaches
  • Confident communicator with clients and colleagues
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable experience includes EPSM licence applications, GIS skills, mentoring junior team members, or involvement in winning new work.

Why This Role Stands Out

This consultancy offers a working environment built on trust, flexibility, and continuous development:

  • Unlimited annual leave, encouraging a healthy balance between work and personal life
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
  • Genuine ownership of your projects and workload
  • Ongoing investment in training, with access to unlimited development opportunities
  • A supportive, close-knit team culture
  • Competitive salary, pension, and bonus scheme
  • Strong prospects for career progression as the business grows

Working Environment

Projects are largely based across the Home Counties, South and Midlands. Some travel and occasional overnight stays are part of the role, although this is managed carefully to support wellbeing and work-life balance.

Next Steps

If you are looking for a role where you can take greater responsibility, expand your expertise, and be part of a business that values long-term development, we would welcome a conversation.
