About the Role

At Ocean to Earth Recruitment, we’re excited to be representing a well-established and award-winning planning and environmental consultancy in their search for a Senior Ecologist. This is a brilliant opportunity to join a growing team of passionate professionals working on a wide variety of projects, with a particular focus on the renewable energy sector.

With offices across Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland, our client is ideally placed to deliver projects throughout the UK and Ireland. Their expert team of consultants brings together extensive experience across planning, environmental assessment, and ecology – with involvement in over 800 projects to date.


🐾 The Role:

As a Senior Ecologist, you’ll take on a hands-on role in both the field and office, contributing to meaningful work that supports sustainable development. You’ll be given the autonomy to manage your own projects, along with the support and mentoring of a friendly, collaborative team.

This role can be based in either Warrington or Bristol, depending on your location and preference.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out ecological surveys including:

    • Phase 1 habitat surveys

    • Protected species scoping and bat surveys

  • Producing a wide range of technical reports such as:

    • Preliminary Ecological Appraisals

    • Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA)

    • Biodiversity Management Plans

    • Appropriate Assessments / Natura Impact Statements

    • EIA chapters and species-specific assessments

  • Acting as Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) where needed

  • Liaising with clients, statutory bodies, and stakeholders

  • Attending site and client meetings

  • Supporting planning applications and discharging conditions


✅ Essential Requirements:

  • A degree in Ecology or a closely related subject

  • Solid knowledge of UK ecological legislation and policy

  • Professional experience conducting Phase 1 habitat and protected species surveys

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills

  • Self-motivated with great organisational abilities

  • Full UK driving licence and own transport

  • Willingness to travel across the UK, including occasional overnight stays


🌟 Desirable Skills:

  • CIEEM membership or eligibility

  • Bat survey and/or ornithology experience

  • Familiarity with GWDTE assessments

  • Previous experience in an ECoW role

  • GIS mapping skills (e.g., ArcGIS)

  • Demonstrable post-graduate ecological fieldwork
