About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Botanist or Senior Ecologist with a specialism in botany to join their dynamic team and contribute to exciting plans for the future. In this role, you will lead on botanical surveys, provide expert ecological input, and help deliver a diverse range of projects.

The team includes over 30 ecologists, out of a total of more than 50 staff, working across ecology, arboriculture and landscape architecture, working nationally and in Ireland. They collaborate on a wide variety of projects, including smaller housing and retail developments that involve significant Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, as well as nationally significant road and rail schemes, garden villages, and quarries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead botanical surveys, offering specialist expertise in botany.
  • Oversee habitat and species assessments, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  • Coordinate ecological surveys and manage projects from initiation to completion.
  • Prepare detailed and precise ecological reports.
  • Support tendering, fee estimates, and maintain strong client relationships.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in ecological consultancy, with a strong focus on botany.
  • Specialist field skills in botany and/or other ecological areas.
  • Working towards or holding protected species survey licenses (e.g., bats, GCN, or dormice).
  • Excellent knowledge of UK and EU environmental legislation, planning policies, and processes.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality written reports.
  • Associate or Full CIEEM Membership (or eligibility in the near future).
  • A degree in Ecology, Botany, or a related field.
  • A full UK driving license.
