About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a respected environmental and planning consultancy in their search for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Planning Monitoring Officer (PMO) and Environmental Auditor to join their award-winning Edinburgh-based team.

About the Role:

Our client is a sector leader in providing Planning Monitoring Officer services to public and private sector stakeholders across Scotland. These services ensure compliance with planning and environmental conditions on major energy and infrastructure projects.

You’ll join a well-established environmental team working on a range of active and high-profile projects, such as:

  • Wind farms

  • Overhead power lines

  • Mining operations

  • Quarries

  • Other large-scale infrastructure developments

This role involves regular site visits (monthly and sometimes weekly) across Scotland and detailed environmental audits, including the review of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and planning documentation. It is ideally suited to a site-savvy environmental professional—potentially an ECOW—who is keen to expand their scope and influence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site monitoring and inspections across diverse project locations

  • Audit and review environmental compliance documentation

  • Engage confidently with contractors, planners, and regulatory bodies

  • Progress towards (or maintain) Lead Environmental Auditor certification (aligned with ISO 14001)

What We’re Looking For:

  • Degree in environmental science, geography, planning, ecology, engineering, or similar

  • Experience working on construction sites and providing environmental advice

  • Excellent communication and reporting skills

  • Professional membership in a relevant body (e.g., IEMA, RTPI, CIEEM)

  • Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel

What’s on Offer:

  • Competitive salary based on experience and skills

  • Flexible hybrid working model (office and home)

  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development

  • Inclusive, collaborative workplace culture

  • Meaningful involvement in environmentally significant projects across Scotland
