The Opportunity

This is an exciting role for a motivated and Ecological Consultant, with a desireable aspect of the role being any ornithology experience. You’ll be part of a busy, supportive terrestrial ecology team helping to deliver meaningful environmental projects across the UK.

This role is field-intensive, involving frequent travel and occasional overnight stays — particularly during peak survey season. If you thrive in varied environments, enjoy hands-on ecological work and want to contribute to impactful consultancy projects, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Ecological Consultant, you will:

  • Lead and support ecological surveys, impact assessments and mitigation work

  • Prepare high-quality reports and technical outputs

  • Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and colleagues

  • Coordinate, plan and deliver survey programmes and ecological inputs

  • Provide pragmatic advice to help clients meet regulatory and project requirements

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

✔ Previous experience in an ecological consultancy or similar role
✔ A degree (BSc/MSc) in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related subject
✔ Strong field skills in one or more specialist areas
✔ Good knowledge of UK ecology, relevant legislation and survey standards
✔ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
✔ Experience in project coordination and survey planning
✔ A full, clean UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel frequently
✔ A positive, proactive attitude and passion for environmental work
✔ Professional membership of CIEEM or working towards it
✔ Experience preparing and issuing client quotations

Desirable Extras

You’ll stand out if you also have:

✨ Protected species licences (e.g. bats, great crested newt, dormouse)
✨ Ornithological survey experience
✨ Strong botanical identification skills
✨ 2–3 years’ commercial sector experience
