Consultant / Senior Consultant, Ecology & Biodiversity

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with an established and growing environmental consultancy looking to strengthen its ecology and biodiversity team in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist who enjoys combining technical ecology with project management and client-facing consultancy. We are particularly interested in people who bring additional expertise in birds and/or botany, alongside broader ecological survey and assessment experience.

The Role

You will work across a varied portfolio of ecology and biodiversity projects, supporting clients through the planning and development process while helping to deliver positive outcomes for nature.

Your responsibilities could include:

• Managing ecology and biodiversity projects from inception through to completion
• Managing project programmes, budgets, deliverables and client requirements
• Acting as a key contact for clients and multidisciplinary project teams
• Undertaking and reviewing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, UKHab surveys and protected species surveys
• Providing specialist input in ornithology and/or botany
• Producing high-quality technical reports, including PEAs, EcIAs, BNG assessments and protected species reports
• Undertaking BNG assessments and calculations
• Using QGIS to support habitat, survey and biodiversity mapping
• Preparing proposals, fee estimates and project plans
• Contributing technical expertise to larger multidisciplinary projects

About You

We would particularly like to hear from ecologists with:

• Professional ecology consultancy experience
• Project management experience, including managing deadlines, budgets and client expectations
• Strong bird identification and/or botanical skills
• Experience of PEAs, UKHab surveys and ecological assessments
• Knowledge and practical experience of Biodiversity Net Gain
• Protected species survey experience
• Strong technical report writing skills
• Good communication and client-facing skills
• QGIS experience
• A relevant ecology, biology or environmental degree
• CIEEM membership or eligibility for membership

Protected species licences or additional ecological specialisms would also be welcomed.
