Bat Ecologist
Meet Our Recruiter
About the Role
At Ocean to Earth Recruitment, we are proud to be working in partnership with a well-established and growing ecology practice, known for delivering technically robust and conservation-led bat projects across the UK.
Due to continued growth in both the scale and complexity of their work, there is an opportunity for Bat Ecologists and Senior Bat Ecologists to join a collaborative and highly experienced team. This role offers meaningful exposure to complex bat work, including rare species and challenging roost types, alongside the support of senior technical specialists.
We are particularly keen to hear from:
- Ecologists with a Level 1 bat licence
- Those actively working towards their Level 2 licence
- And that harder-to-find Level 2 licensed bat ecologist ready to take on greater responsibility
The Role
You will play a key role in delivering bat-focused projects across a range of sectors, with the opportunity to contribute more broadly across ecology if this aligns with your interests.
Your work will include:
- Leading and supporting bat surveys, including Preliminary Roost Assessments, activity surveys, and tree inspections
- Managing survey equipment and coordinating field programmes
- Producing high-quality technical reports, including PEAs, EcIA inputs, HRAs, and EPS licence applications
- Analysing and interpreting bat data to inform robust ecological advice
- Engaging with clients and supporting project delivery
- Mentoring junior team members, particularly at Senior level
About You
You will bring a solid grounding in bat ecology within a consultancy environment, alongside a genuine interest in developing your technical expertise.
We are looking for:
- A relevant degree and membership of CIEEM
- Around 3+ years’ experience (5+ years for Senior level)
- A Level 2 bat licence, or Level 1 with clear progression towards Level 2
- Strong knowledge of UK bat species, survey methods, and legislation
- Experience contributing to or preparing EPS licence applications
- Confidence in survey delivery, data interpretation, and reporting
Additional experience such as bat handling, aerial inspections, or working under EPS licences would be beneficial.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
This is a consultancy that has invested in both its people and its technical capability. As part of a wider ecology group, you will benefit from:
- Access to larger, more complex and sometimes international projects
- A strong culture of mentoring and knowledge sharing
- Investment in modern survey equipment and systems
- The opportunity to develop your career within a supportive and well-resourced environment
Package and Progression
- Competitive salary aligned to experience
- Profit-share bonus
- Private healthcare and health cash plan
- Generous annual leave and structured recovery time during peak season
- Funded CPD, licence renewals, and CIEEM membership
- Clear support towards licence progression and chartership
A Role That Grows With You
Whether you are building towards your Level 2 licence or already operating at that level and looking for more technically challenging work, this role offers a clear and supported pathway.
If you are looking for a position where your bat expertise is valued, your progression is taken seriously, and your work contributes to meaningful conservation outcomes, this is well worth exploring.
