Technical Director - Landscape Architect

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is supporting a growing multidisciplinary environmental, planning and design consultancy with the appointment of a Technical Director of Landscape Architecture.

This is a senior opportunity for an experienced Chartered Landscape Architect who combines strong technical expertise in Landscape Planning, LVIA and TVIA with project leadership, commercial awareness and client development.

You will work across a varied portfolio including major infrastructure, renewable energy, strategic development, regeneration and environmental enhancement, with the opportunity to influence the technical direction and continued growth of the landscape team.

The Role

As Technical Director, you will take a senior role across technically complex landscape projects, including:

• Leading landscape input into DCO, NSIP, infrastructure, energy and strategic development projects

• Leading and reviewing LVIAs, TVIAs, landscape strategies and environmental assessments

• Providing senior technical advice on landscape, visual and environmental matters

• Acting as Project Director and/or Project Manager

• Providing technical review and quality assurance

• Acting as an Expert Witness at inquiries, hearings and examinations where required

• Managing project budgets, programmes, fees and resources

• Developing strong, long-term client relationships

• Contributing to tenders, fee proposals and new business opportunities

• Mentoring and supporting landscape colleagues

• Helping shape the future development of the landscape service

This is not a purely managerial position. You will retain a hands-on technical role, contributing to assessment, report writing, technical review and project delivery.

What We Are Looking For

You are likely to bring:

• Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute, CMLI

• A Landscape Institute accredited qualification

• Significant post-chartership consultancy experience

• Strong Landscape Planning, LVIA and TVIA expertise

• Experience of major infrastructure, strategic development, DCO and/or NSIP projects

• Strong knowledge of UK planning and environmental assessment

• Experience of project and commercial management

• Experience providing Expert Witness evidence

• Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills

• Experience supporting business development and work winning

• The ability to lead technically while remaining involved in project delivery

Experience within a multidisciplinary consultancy and leading multidisciplinary project teams would also be valuable.
