Ocean to Earth Recruitment is proud to partner with a leading Irish consultancy specialising in sustainable infrastructure, environment, energy, and renewables. We are currently seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Hydrologist to join a well-established and growing Sustainable Infrastructure team.
This role is ideal for a motivated professional with 8+ years’ experience who is looking to take the next step in their career, broaden their technical and leadership skills, and contribute to high-profile infrastructure and renewable energy projects across Ireland.
The Role
As a Senior / Principal Hydrologist, you will play a key role in project delivery, technical leadership, and business growth. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, providing expert input across hydrology, drainage, hydrogeology, and environmental assessments.
The position offers a clear pathway for career progression, along with opportunities to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and influence the continued development of the hydrology function.
Key Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership across drainage, hydrology, hydrogeology, and geoscience teams

Prepare and review technical reports and designs for hydrology, drainage, EIAs, licensing, and compliance

Lead the preparation of Hydrology and Water Quality chapters for EIARs on large-scale infrastructure projects

Prepare and review Flood Risk Assessments (Stages I, II & III)

Design and coordinate environmental sampling and monitoring programmes
-
Undertake and oversee field-based works including surface water and groundwater monitoring
-
Manage projects and designs in compliance with health, safety, and quality standards

Maintain and develop technical expertise through ongoing CPD

Contribute to tenders, proposals, and business development activities

Liaise effectively with clients, regulators, and external stakeholders
About You
-
Honours degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geoscience, or a related discipline

Minimum of 8 years’ relevant professional experience

Strong experience in Flood Risk Assessment and hydrology-led project delivery
-
Proven experience preparing Hydrology and Water Quality chapters for EIARs
-
Experience with Water Framework Directive Compliance Assessments
-
Experience designing surface water management systems for runoff and pollution control

Strong understanding of environmental legislation and guidance

Excellent analytical, technical, and communication skills
-
Fluent spoken and written English

Full clean driving licence
Desirable:
-
Chartered (or working towards chartership) with a relevant professional body

Postgraduate / MSc qualification
-
Experience on large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects

Strong commercial awareness and client-facing experience
