Senior / Principal Ecology Project Manager
Meet Our Recruiter
About the Role
Senior / Principal Environmental Project Manager
Warrington, Market Harborough or Remote | Up to £49,000 | Permanent | Flexible Working
About the Role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with an established environmental consultancy looking to appoint Senior and Principal Project Managers to support the delivery of a growing portfolio of environmental and multidisciplinary projects.
You do not need to be an ecologist for this position.
We are particularly interested in speaking with experienced Project Managers who have worked within environmental consultancy, ecology, planning or a wider multidisciplinary environment and understand what is involved in successfully delivering complex consultancy projects.
You will bring together technical specialists, clients, stakeholders and project partners, taking responsibility for programmes, budgets, resources, risk, reporting and commercial performance.
There is flexibility around the level of appointment. At Senior level, you will manage complex projects and workstreams, while at Principal level you will take greater responsibility for larger or strategically important projects, governance, commercial performance and senior client relationships.
The role can be based from Warrington or Market Harborough, with remote and flexible working options available.
About the Company
You will be joining an established multidisciplinary environmental consultancy working across the natural and built environment.
The business brings together specialists from a range of environmental and planning disciplines, creating an environment where Project Managers can work across varied and often complex projects.
There is a strong emphasis on quality, collaboration and professional development, with the opportunity to take genuine ownership of project delivery and develop your career within a supportive consultancy environment.
About You
Your technical background could be in environmental consultancy, planning, ecology or another related discipline. Alternatively, you may have developed your career specifically within project management while working alongside environmental and technical teams.
The important factor is your ability to understand complex projects, coordinate different disciplines and keep delivery, commercial performance and client expectations on track.
You are likely to have:
-
Strong project management experience within environmental consultancy, planning, ecology or a multidisciplinary environment
-
A degree or recognised qualification in project management, environmental science, planning, ecology or another relevant discipline
-
Experience managing complex projects from initial set-up through to delivery
-
A clear understanding of project governance, reporting and risk management
-
Experience managing budgets, forecasting, resources, programmes and commercial performance
-
Confidence working with technical specialists without necessarily being the technical expert yourself
-
Strong client and stakeholder management skills
-
The ability to identify risks and delivery challenges early and find practical solutions
-
Excellent organisational and communication skills
-
A collaborative approach to working across different disciplines and project teams
-
An interest in supporting and mentoring colleagues
Knowledge of environmental legislation, planning policy and assessment processes would be beneficial.
Experience creating or using Power BI reports or similar project reporting systems would also be advantageous but is not essential.
Responsibilities
Depending on your experience and level, you will:
-
Lead environmental and multidisciplinary projects from initial planning through to successful delivery
-
Manage programmes, budgets, resources, forecasting and project reporting
-
Coordinate teams of environmental, planning and other technical specialists
-
Establish and maintain appropriate project controls and governance
-
Monitor project finances, fee recovery and commercial performance
-
Identify and manage project risks, opportunities and delivery challenges
-
Build strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders and project partners
-
Ensure project teams remain aligned on priorities, timescales and deliverables
-
Contribute to bids, proposals and wider project planning
-
Support consistent, high-quality project delivery
-
Mentor colleagues and share project management knowledge across the team
At Principal level, you will take greater responsibility for strategically important projects, complex commercial matters, senior client relationships and helping to strengthen project management practices across the wider business.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to focus your career on project leadership within the environmental sector, working alongside specialists from a range of disciplines without needing to be the technical ecology lead.
You can expect:
-
Salary up to £49,000 depending on experience and level
-
Opportunities at Senior and Principal level
-
Remote working or office options in Warrington and Market Harborough
-
Flexible working
-
Permanent, full-time position
-
Varied environmental and multidisciplinary projects
-
Exposure to different technical disciplines
-
Opportunity to develop your project, commercial and leadership experience
-
Scope to mentor others and influence successful project delivery
If you are an experienced Project Manager from an environmental, planning, ecology or multidisciplinary consultancy background and would like to explore your next step, we would be very happy to hear from you.
