About the Role

Principal Arboricultural Consultant

The Opportunity

Not every move is about salary.

Sometimes it's about having more influence over projects. More trust from leadership. Better conversations with clients. The freedom to focus on quality work rather than simply hitting targets.

If you're an experienced Arboricultural Consultant looking for the next step in your career—or a Principal Consultant seeking a consultancy where your expertise can genuinely shape outcomes—this opportunity offers exactly that.

Joining a respected environmental consultancy at an exciting stage of growth, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality arboricultural advice across a diverse range of projects while helping to shape the future of the service itself.

You'll have the autonomy to manage your own workload, the support of a highly experienced multidisciplinary team, and the opportunity to contribute to projects that deliver meaningful environmental outcomes across the UK.

The Company

This established environmental consultancy has spent more than three decades helping clients navigate the complex relationship between development and the natural environment.

Their reputation has been built on technical excellence, practical advice and a genuine commitment to protecting and enhancing biodiversity. Working across planning, infrastructure, utilities, conservation and land management projects, their specialists support organisations facing increasingly complex environmental challenges.

The business continues to grow, but it has retained the collaborative, supportive culture that has underpinned its success. People are trusted to manage their work, develop their careers and contribute ideas. There is a genuine focus on professional development, flexibility and creating an environment where talented environmental professionals can do their best work.

Perhaps most importantly, the organisation remains deeply connected to its environmental purpose, with a long-term commitment to delivering positive outcomes for nature alongside commercial success.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a varied role that combines technical expertise, project leadership and client engagement.

You'll be:

  • Leading BS5837 surveys, tree inspections and arboricultural assessments.

  • Providing trusted technical advice to a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.

  • Producing high-quality reports that support planning and development projects.

  • Managing projects from inception through to delivery.

  • Undertaking site visits, audits and arboricultural clerk of works duties.

  • Supporting project scoping and commercial planning.

  • Building long-term client relationships based on technical credibility and practical solutions.

  • Contributing to the development of arboricultural services and supporting less experienced colleagues where appropriate.

The role offers an excellent balance of fieldwork, technical consultancy and client-facing responsibilities.

About You

You're likely to be an experienced arboricultural professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with practical problem-solving.

You may already be operating at Principal level or perhaps you're an established Senior Consultant ready for greater responsibility and leadership opportunities.

You'll bring strong arboricultural knowledge, excellent communication skills and the confidence to manage projects and client relationships effectively.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys working collaboratively, values high professional standards and wants to be part of a business that genuinely cares about the environmental outcomes it helps deliver.

Qualifications in Arboriculture, relevant professional memberships and additional certifications such as PTI or recognised tree risk assessment training would be welcomed, but experience, capability and attitude are equally important.

What's on Offer

Alongside a varied and rewarding workload, you'll benefit from a package designed to support both your professional and personal development.

Highlights include:

  • Salary of £38,000–£52,000 depending on experience.

  • Paid overtime.

  • Annual performance-related bonus.

  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

  • Generous annual leave entitlement with additional leave linked to progression.

  • Time Off in Lieu, offering additional flexibility and extended breaks when needed.

  • Ongoing professional development and structured training support.

  • Professional membership subscriptions paid.

  • Employee wellbeing support.

  • Clear opportunities for progression within a growing consultancy.

This is a business that understands that attracting and retaining great people requires more than a competitive salary. Flexibility, trust, career development and meaningful work are all part of the package.

Location & Flexibility

Based in the Midlands, this role offers a hybrid working model with a blend of home working, site visits and office collaboration.

Both full-time and part-time applications will be considered.
