Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to partner with a leading multidisciplinary environmental consultancy in Wiltshire to find a Senior Ecologist with a strong interest in habitats, botany, and biodiversity enhancement.
This award-winning consultancy works across a diverse range of conservation and development-led projects, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that balance the needs of clients, communities, and the environment. Their friendly and collaborative ecology team is expanding, and they’re seeking someone with solid technical knowledge and a genuine passion for plant ecology and habitat creation.
🌱 The Role
As a Senior Ecologist, you’ll lead and deliver a variety of exciting ecological projects, focusing on habitats and botanical survey work. You’ll work closely with the in-house botany lead (FISC 5, FISC 6 pending, and the Wiltshire BSBI County Recorder for vascular plants) to further develop your skills while contributing to impactful conservation outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:

Undertaking and leading UKHab surveys and Defra condition assessments (NVC experience desirable but not essential)

Producing high-quality ecological reports, including PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs, and Environmental Statement chapters

Completing BNG assessments and advising clients on achieving biodiversity net gain targets

Supporting habitat bank development and producing Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs)

Preparing project quotes, managing budgets, and maintaining strong client relationships

Providing technical input and mentoring to junior team members

Contributing to a wide range of multidisciplinary projects alongside landscape architects and environmental specialists
🌼 About You
We’re looking for a motivated and skilled ecologist with:

4–5 years’ relevant ecological consultancy experience

FISC Level 4 qualification (essential)

Demonstrable experience with UKHab surveys (NVC experience advantageous)

A passion for developing botanical expertise, supported by in-house mentorship

Experience with BNG assessments and/or working with landowners on habitat creation or habitat banks

Strong report writing skills and experience producing PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs, and ES chapters
-
Proven ability to manage projects, produce quotes, and liaise with clients effectively
-
CIEEM membership (ideally Associate level or above)
-
Protected species licences (especially bats) beneficial but not essential – this is primarily a habitat-focused role
