About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment are delighted to be supporting our client, a respected and forward-thinking environmental consultancy, in their search for an Ecologist to join their growing team.

Our client delivers ecological and environmental services to a wide variety of public and private sector organisations, from small-scale community projects through to complex developments in education, healthcare, and utilities. With a strong presence across London and Essex, and projects occasionally further afield, this role offers the chance to work on diverse and meaningful projects in a supportive, collaborative environment.

You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with ecologists, landscape architects, and arboricultural specialists, giving you exposure to a wide range of disciplines and enabling you to further develop your skills as part of an experienced design team.

The Role
As an Ecologist, you will:

  • Undertake and manage ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation projects.

  • Carry out Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Protected Species Surveys (with an emphasis on bats).

  • Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports.

  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.

  • Enjoy a varied workload of site and desk-based tasks, changing naturally with the seasons.

Our client’s projects include Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, Ecological Enhancement Schemes, Protected Species Mitigation, and a wide range of other ecological consultancy work. Unlike some larger consultancies, you won’t be limited to a handful of massive projects — variety and impact are at the heart of the role.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable skills in Preliminary Ecological Appraisal and Protected Species Surveys.

  • Strong knowledge of British flora and fauna.

  • Understanding of wildlife legislation and the planning system.

  • Reliable report writing skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Full UK driving licence.

Highly Desirable

  • Bat Survey Licence (Level 2).

  • Other protected species licences or specialisms.

  • Familiarity with Biodiversity Net Gain.

Experience & Qualifications

  • A relevant degree in ecology or related field.

  • Proven experience using ecological software, with strong technical ability.

  • Confident verbal presentation skills and the ability to communicate in both written and graphical formats.

  • Excellent collaboration skills for working effectively with clients and stakeholders.

This is an excellent opportunity to advance your ecological career with a consultancy that values professional development, offers varied and rewarding work, and provides the chance to make a real difference to the environment.
