About the Role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment are delighted to be supporting our client, a respected and forward-thinking environmental consultancy, in their search for an Ecologist to join their growing team.
Our client delivers ecological and environmental services to a wide variety of public and private sector organisations, from small-scale community projects through to complex developments in education, healthcare, and utilities. With a strong presence across London and Essex, and projects occasionally further afield, this role offers the chance to work on diverse and meaningful projects in a supportive, collaborative environment.
You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with ecologists, landscape architects, and arboricultural specialists, giving you exposure to a wide range of disciplines and enabling you to further develop your skills as part of an experienced design team.
The Role
As an Ecologist, you will:
- 
Undertake and manage ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation projects.
 - 
Carry out Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Protected Species Surveys (with an emphasis on bats).
 - 
Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports.
 - 
Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
 - 
Enjoy a varied workload of site and desk-based tasks, changing naturally with the seasons.
 
Our client’s projects include Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, Ecological Enhancement Schemes, Protected Species Mitigation, and a wide range of other ecological consultancy work. Unlike some larger consultancies, you won’t be limited to a handful of massive projects — variety and impact are at the heart of the role.
Requirements
- 
Demonstrable skills in Preliminary Ecological Appraisal and Protected Species Surveys.
 - 
Strong knowledge of British flora and fauna.
 - 
Understanding of wildlife legislation and the planning system.
 - 
Reliable report writing skills with excellent attention to detail.
 - 
Full UK driving licence.
 
Highly Desirable
- 
Bat Survey Licence (Level 2).
 - 
Other protected species licences or specialisms.
 - 
Familiarity with Biodiversity Net Gain.
 
Experience & Qualifications
- 
A relevant degree in ecology or related field.
 - 
Proven experience using ecological software, with strong technical ability.
 - 
Confident verbal presentation skills and the ability to communicate in both written and graphical formats.
 - 
Excellent collaboration skills for working effectively with clients and stakeholders.
