About the Role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to be working with a respected multidisciplinary environmental consultancy to recruit a Senior Ecologist for their growing Manchester team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced ecologist (4–5+ years) ready to take the next step in their career — with real responsibility, supportive mentorship, and the chance to work on diverse, high-profile projects across multiple sectors.
🔍 About the Role
You’ll play a key part in survey planning, team mentoring, and project delivery — leading technical assessments while also supporting the growth and development of junior staff. The role offers a great balance of technical fieldwork, report writing, and client interaction.
Although the role is primarily office-based, flexible working is supported (1–2 days WFH).
✅ Key Responsibilities

Lead a wide range of ecological surveys (including specialist protected species assessments)

Deliver high-quality technical reports (PEA, UKHab, protected species surveys)

Oversee survey planning, logistics, and resourcing

Mentor junior team members and contribute to their development

Liaise directly with clients and support business development

Provide input on tenders, budgets, and fee proposals

Ensure compliance with industry standards, legislation, and H&S protocols
🛠 What We’re Looking For

Degree in Ecology or related subject (BSc essential; MSc desirable)

Minimum 4–5 years’ relevant experience

Associate CIEEM (working towards Full Membership)

Strong knowledge of UK/EU ecological legislation and policy

Skilled in habitat and species surveys (e.g. GCN, bats, dormice)

Confident in GIS, mapping tools, and data analysis

Protected species licences (or progress toward obtaining them)

Full UK driving licence
