About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to be working with a respected multidisciplinary environmental consultancy to recruit a Senior Ecologist for their growing Manchester team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced ecologist (4–5+ years) ready to take the next step in their career — with real responsibility, supportive mentorship, and the chance to work on diverse, high-profile projects across multiple sectors.

🔍 About the Role

You’ll play a key part in survey planning, team mentoring, and project delivery — leading technical assessments while also supporting the growth and development of junior staff. The role offers a great balance of technical fieldwork, report writing, and client interaction.

Although the role is primarily office-based, flexible working is supported (1–2 days WFH).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a wide range of ecological surveys (including specialist protected species assessments)

  • Deliver high-quality technical reports (PEA, UKHab, protected species surveys)

  • Oversee survey planning, logistics, and resourcing

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to their development

  • Liaise directly with clients and support business development

  • Provide input on tenders, budgets, and fee proposals

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, legislation, and H&S protocols

🛠 What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Ecology or related subject (BSc essential; MSc desirable)

  • Minimum 4–5 years’ relevant experience

  • Associate CIEEM (working towards Full Membership)

  • Strong knowledge of UK/EU ecological legislation and policy

  • Skilled in habitat and species surveys (e.g. GCN, bats, dormice)

  • Confident in GIS, mapping tools, and data analysis

  • Protected species licences (or progress toward obtaining them)

  • Full UK driving licence

🌱 Why Apply?

  • Join a supportive, multidisciplinary team with strong staff retention

  • Work on varied projects across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, transport, and industry

  • Real progression opportunities toward Principal roles

  • Competitive salary and flexible working options
