The opportunity

The Senior Ecologist will play a key leadership role within the Ecology team, taking ownership of projects, providing expert advice, mentoring colleagues, and supporting business growth. The role involves close collaboration with other disciplines, including landscape and arboriculture, to deliver integrated environmental solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project management and client liaison

  • Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA)

  • Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA)

  • Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)

  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments

  • Protected species surveys and reporting

  • Licensing and mitigation strategies

  • Survey scoping, design, and technical leadership

  • Mentoring junior ecologists and assistants

  • Supporting business development and winning new work

This is a varied role offering a mix of fieldwork, technical delivery, strategic input, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

About you

We’re keen to speak with ecologists who combine strong technical capability with leadership and commercial awareness.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree (or higher) in ecology or a related biological science

  • CIEEM membership (working towards Chartership desirable)

  • Strong understanding of UK ecological legislation and planning policy

  • Excellent habitat survey skills, including UK Habitat Classification

  • Experience in protected species surveys (and licences, where held)

  • Experience liaising with clients, local planning authorities, and statutory bodies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • High-quality report writing and review experience

  • Proven project management and mentoring capability

  • Experience contributing to business development and securing work

  • A collaborative approach aligned with consultancy values

  • A full UK driving licence

Salary & benefits

  • £40,960 – £48,450, dependent on experience
