This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with mentoring, quality assurance, and strategic input. You’ll work closely with senior leaders and technical specialists to help evolve BNG services as policy, guidance and practice continue to develop.

The organisation champions flexible working, collaboration, and meaningful environmental outcomes, offering a supportive culture where expertise is valued and innovation is encouraged.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the development of internal and external BNG resources to improve knowledge sharing and streamline processes

  • Quality assuring a wide range of biodiversity deliverables, including:

    • Full BNG assessments

    • Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs)

    • Biodiversity Gain Plans and associated documentation

  • Identifying internal and external knowledge gaps and supporting professional development initiatives

  • Contributing to training delivery and mentoring of colleagues

  • Working with senior leadership to help shape and refine the organisation’s BNG service offering

  • Supporting client and stakeholder consultation, including engagement with planning authorities

  • Staying up to date with emerging BNG guidance, policy and relevant case law

  • Collaborating with accredited surveyors to support surveys and improve methodological approaches

  • Leading on quality assurance while also producing BNG assessments for complex or high-risk sites, including challenging HMMPs

What we’re looking for

  • Strong understanding of how Biodiversity Net Gain operates within the planning system

  • Experience undertaking botanical surveys and applying UKHab classifications

  • Familiarity with GIS software and digital field data capture tools (experience with Coreo is advantageous)

  • Awareness of current BNG guidance, legislation and case law

  • Experience or knowledge of habitat banks and the practical management of habitats for biodiversity (desirable)

  • A collaborative approach, with the confidence to provide technical leadership and mentoring

What’s on offer

  • Salary: £39,390 – £46,590 per annum

  • Additional London weighting allowance where applicable

  • A 4-day working week, paid at the equivalent of 5 days (80% time, 100% pay)

  • A supportive, values-driven working environment with a strong focus on staff wellbeing and professional growth
