About the Role

The Opportunity

If you're experienced in water resources management but finding yourself looking for greater variety, more influence over projects, or the chance to help shape the future of a growing team, this could be worth a conversation.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established environmental consultancy delivering nationally significant work across water resources, drought planning and environmental assessment. You'll work alongside highly respected technical specialists, lead complex projects for major clients, and play an important role in developing both people and the business.

Whether your motivation is progressing into a more strategic role, expanding your technical influence or working on projects with genuine environmental impact, this position offers the scope to do just that.

The Company

You'll be joining a multidisciplinary environmental consultancy with an excellent reputation for delivering science-led advice across the UK. Collaboration sits at the heart of the business, bringing together specialists in water resources, hydrology, hydro-ecology, geomorphology, water quality, ecology, planning and environmental assessment.

The culture is supportive, technically ambitious and built around giving experienced professionals the autonomy to do their best work while continuing to develop their careers.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll lead the delivery of a diverse portfolio of water resources projects, taking ownership from initial client discussions through to successful project completion.

Your work will include:

  • Leading complex water resources and drought planning projects for a range of public and private sector clients.
  • Providing technical leadership across environmental assessments including WFD Compliance Assessments, HRA, SEA and Environmental Assessment Reports.
  • Developing trusted relationships with clients and identifying opportunities for future work.
  • Preparing tenders, contributing to business development and helping secure new projects.
  • Managing project programmes, budgets and quality assurance.
  • Mentoring and supporting consultants within the team, helping develop the next generation of technical specialists.
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions.

About You

You'll already have a strong background in water resources management and be comfortable leading technical projects and working directly with clients.

You might currently be working within an environmental consultancy, water company or specialist advisory business and be looking for greater responsibility, more varied projects or stronger long-term career progression.

You'll likely bring experience in areas such as:

  • Water resources planning and drought management.
  • Environmental assessment, including WFD, HRA, SEA or related disciplines.
  • UK environmental legislation and regulatory processes.
  • Project and client management.
  • Producing high-quality technical reports and providing expert advice.
  • Supporting colleagues through mentoring or informal leadership.

An MSc (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline would be expected.

What's on Offer

Alongside the opportunity to work on nationally important water management projects, you'll benefit from:

  • Flexible and hybrid working designed around trust and work-life balance.
  • Interesting, technically challenging projects with genuine environmental impact.
  • Opportunities to shape projects, influence clients and contribute to business growth.
  • A collaborative team of experienced environmental specialists.
  • Leadership and people management opportunities.
  • Ongoing professional development and technical training.
  • Support for professional memberships.
  • A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

Location & Flexibility

This role offers flexible working, with hybrid arrangements available and the ability to work from a range of locations across the UK. Travel for client meetings and occasional site visits will be required where appropriate.

Interested?

If you're curious about where your experience in water resources management could take you next, we'd be happy to have an informal conversation.

Even if you're not actively looking, this could be an opportunity to work on more interesting projects, with greater flexibility and the chance to make a real impact within a highly regarded environmental consultancy.
