About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is supporting a leading environmental consultancy in the search for a Principal Freshwater Fisheries Scientist to join their growing aquatic environment team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fisheries professional to take a leading role in delivering high-profile projects across the water, energy, infrastructure and conservation sectors. You'll combine technical expertise with project leadership, client engagement and team development, helping to protect and enhance freshwater ecosystems across the UK.

The Role

You'll lead a diverse portfolio of fisheries and aquatic ecology projects, providing technical direction and specialist advice across a range of freshwater environments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading freshwater fisheries and multidisciplinary environmental projects.
  • Designing and overseeing fisheries surveys and monitoring programmes.
  • Delivering fisheries impact assessments, habitat assessments and regulatory studies.
  • Managing project budgets, programmes and quality assurance.
  • Building strong client relationships and supporting business development.
  • Preparing and contributing to bids and tenders.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members.
  • Collaborating with specialists across ecology, hydrology and water management disciplines.

About You

We're keen to hear from candidates with:

  • Significant experience in freshwater fisheries ecology and assessment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation, including WFD, EIA and HRA.
  • Experience managing complex projects and client relationships.
  • Excellent technical reporting and communication skills.
  • A proven ability to lead, mentor and develop others.

Chartered status or experience securing new work would be advantageous.
