About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a leading UK environmental consultancy to recruit a Principal Environmental Consultant – Water Assessments. This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced environmental professional who wants to play a key role in delivering complex environmental assessments while working within a collaborative and values-driven organisation.

The Role

This is a varied and rewarding position where you will combine technical leadership, project coordination and environmental assessment expertise.

As a Principal Environmental Consultant, you will act as both a technical author and project integrator, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs across areas such as:

  • Water quality

  • Hydrology

  • Hydromorphology

  • Flood risk

  • Groundwater

  • Aquatic ecology

You will lead the delivery of high-quality, evidence-led outputs, including:

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) chapters

  • Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments

  • Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)

  • Environmental research reports

  • Monitoring programmes

Projects span freshwater, estuarine and coastal environments, supporting clients across the water, energy, infrastructure and conservation sectors.

You will also contribute to business development, tender preparation and strategic growth, helping expand environmental assessment capabilities within the team.

This role offers the opportunity to strengthen your technical influence, work on impactful environmental projects and collaborate with specialists across multiple disciplines.


What You’ll Bring

  • MSc or PhD in Environmental Science or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)

  • 5+ years’ professional experience in environmental consultancy or a similar environment

  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, particularly the Water Framework Directive (WFD)

  • Experience coordinating and delivering water-related environmental assessments, including EIA and WFD assessments

  • Proven ability to organise and coordinate multidisciplinary environmental projects

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

  • Experience engaging with clients and stakeholders

  • Commercial awareness, including experience contributing to tenders or proposals

  • Experience contributing to large-scale environmental projects

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel


Desirable Experience

  • Line management experience and an interest in mentoring junior staff

  • Experience delivering complex or high-profile projects

  • Membership of a relevant professional body

  • Experience undertaking or overseeing Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)

  • GIS proficiency

  • Full UK driving licence
