About the Role

At Ocean to Earth Recruitment, our vision is to elevate green growth - connecting the people and organisations driving sustainable change. We are working with a growing geo-environmental consultancy entering a new phase of expansion and taking on more complex projects, building stronger client partnerships, and investing in the people who will drive that progress.

They are now looking for a Principal Engineer ready to move beyond execution and into influence.

🌍 The Opportunity — Where You Step Up

You may already be running projects, guiding junior engineers, and making key technical decisions. But this role offers something more defined:

A chance to become the technical backbone and leadership bridge within the team.

Here, you won’t just contribute to projects - you will set the standard for how they are delivered.

🚀 The Impact You Will Have

Your work will sit at the heart of project success, team development, and client trust.

You will:

  • Lead complex site investigations and environmental assessments that directly inform land use, development, and environmental risk management.

  • Ensure every technical output reflects accuracy, clarity, and confidence, shaping decisions that matter.

  • Guide and mentor engineers, accelerating their growth while strengthening the team around you.

  • Act as a trusted voice for clients, helping them navigate technical and regulatory challenges.

  • Support the growth of the business through your expertise, judgement, and credibility.

Your influence will be felt not just in what is delivered but in how it is delivered, and who it develops along the way.

🧭 Your Journey — From Technical Expert to Trusted Leader

This role marks a natural but important shift.

  • From delivering technical work → owning technical direction

  • From supporting teams → leading and shaping them

  • From contributing to projects → being relied on to define them

You will work closely with senior leadership, gaining exposure to broader decision-making while still remaining grounded in the technical detail that defines quality.

🛠️ What You’ll Be Doing

You will take ownership across several key areas:

Technical Leadership & Quality
Overseeing site investigations, environmental assessments, and remediation strategies—ensuring every output meets the highest professional standards.

Project & Team Leadership
Managing project teams, coordinating inputs, and mentoring engineers—balancing delivery with development.

Client Engagement
Acting as a key point of contact, building trust, and contributing to proposals, project scoping, and stakeholder discussions.

Health, Safety & Compliance
Championing a safety-first culture, ensuring all work meets regulatory and operational standards.

Development & Knowledge Sharing
Supporting the growth of others while continuing to evolve your own expertise within a changing technical landscape.

🎓 What You Bring

You will likely have:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Around 6+ years’ experience in geo-environmental consultancy

  • Strong experience in site investigations, contaminated land, and environmental assessment

  • Chartered status (or working toward it)

  • A full UK driving licence

But more importantly, you bring:

  • The confidence to take ownership

  • The judgement to make decisions that matter

  • The ability to guide others while continuing to grow yourself

🌱 Why This Role, Why Now?

Because you’re ready for more than just delivery.

This is a chance to:

  • Step into a clear leadership position without losing technical depth

  • Have a visible impact on projects, people, and standards

  • Be part of a company that is growing—and wants you to grow with it

If you’re ready to take that next step—from trusted engineer to recognised leader—we’d welcome a conversation.
