About the Role

Impact on the Future of Ecology in Scotland

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading UK ecology consultancy in the appointment of a Principal Ecologist / Associate Director who will spearhead the launch and growth of a new Scottish ecology division.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious ecology professional to build a team from the ground up, drive business growth and play a pivotal role in national expansion.

About Our Client

Our client is a leading ecology consultancy practice with over 35 years of experience, providing specialist ecological advice and services to private and commercial sector clients. They work extensively with local planning authorities, non-departmental public bodies, charities, and collaborate closely with partner organisations specialising in landscape consultancy and habitat creation.

Working at the forefront of complex and high-profile environmental projects, they are recognised for technical excellence, a collaborative culture and a strong reputation for customer-focused delivery.

The Opportunity

In this newly created strategic role, you will:

  • Establish and lead a new ecology division in Scotland, shaping direction and growth strategy.

  • Build and manage a high-performing team as the region develops.

  • Drive business development, secure new work and develop lasting client relationships.

  • Lead complex ecological projects and provide high-level technical and strategic input.

  • Play a key role in project management and mentoring junior colleagues.

  • Report directly to Directors, operating with a high level of independence and autonomy.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • An experienced Principal Ecologist or existing Associate Director ready for the next step.

  • Skilled in protected species, biodiversity legislation and delivering strategic ecological advice.

  • Confident leading proposals, managing clients and securing new consultancy work.

  • A strong people leader who enjoys developing teams and supporting professional growth.

  • Entrepreneurial, collaborative and motivated to build something new.

  • Based in Scotland, with flexibility for occasional travel.

What’s on Offer

  • A rare chance to create and lead a new regional division within an already successful national consultancy.

  • Fast-track progression to Director level based on performance and growth.

  • Full autonomy over strategy, resourcing and delivery.

  • Remote-first working culture with trust and flexibility.

  • The opportunity to deliver meaningful environmental impact and build a legacy.

Why This Role?

For the right person, this is a career-defining opportunity that combines technical leadership, business growth and entrepreneurial freedom within a supportive and well-resourced environment.
