Landscape Architect / Landscape Designer

About the Role
Help shape places that are better for people, nature and the future
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with an established, award-winning and 100% employee-owned design practice to appoint a creative Landscape Architect / Landscape Designer to its Exeter studio.
Our client brings together landscape architects, urban designers, masterplanners, planners, strategists and environmental specialists. Their work spans the UK and internationally, with a strong focus on creating places that respond positively to climate change, biodiversity loss and the needs of communities.
Why this practice is different
Employee ownership is an important part of the culture. The people working within the practice collectively have a stake in its future, supporting a collaborative environment where ideas, creativity and professional development are encouraged.
Landscape architecture has also been central to the practice since its beginnings. The business has a long history of pioneering approaches to green infrastructure and environmental design and continues to see landscape as one of the essential building blocks of successful places.
Rather than approaching projects with a predetermined answer, teams are encouraged to consider the change a project should ultimately create. That means listening to communities, clients and project partners, understanding the wider environmental and social context and designing towards meaningful outcomes.
For a Landscape Architect who wants their work to have a tangible relationship with climate resilience, nature recovery, renewable energy, infrastructure and better placemaking, this offers an interesting long-term home.
The Exeter studio
You will join a creative team based in a riverside warehouse studio in the heart of Exeter, with views across the River Exe towards the Haldon Hills.
The location offers a particularly attractive balance. Exeter provides the benefits of city life while Dartmoor, Exmoor and the South West coastline are all within easy reach.
The studio leads pioneering projects and, with continued demand for its design expertise, is looking for someone who wants to contribute ideas, develop professionally and play an active role within the team.
The opportunity
We are looking for a creative and curious designer with strong landscape and public realm design skills.
Depending on your level of experience, your work could encompass concept design through to detailed design and construction, working alongside multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver high-quality, thoughtful and resilient places.
You should be comfortable communicating design ideas visually and verbally and enjoy working collaboratively rather than in isolation.
We would particularly like to hear from you if you have:
• Relevant UK landscape architecture or design qualifications
• Strong conceptual landscape and public realm design skills
• Excellent visual presentation and communication ability
• Good 3D design and visualisation skills
• Experience working with UK clients and multidisciplinary project teams
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
• An interest in designing places that respond positively to people, nature and climate
For more experienced applicants, technical competence in detailed design packages and an understanding of the construction process will also be valuable.
What could make this the right move?
This role could suit you if you are looking for more than simply your next project.
You may want greater creative involvement, exposure to significant and varied work, a collaborative studio environment or the opportunity to build your career within a practice where landscape, sustainability and positive environmental outcomes are central to the way projects are approached.
You will also be joining an employee-owned business of around 200 people across nine studios, providing the breadth and resources of a larger practice while retaining a strong sense of shared purpose and collective responsibility.
If you are an ambitious Landscape Architect or Landscape Designer who wants to develop your career while contributing to places with lasting value, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
