Ecology Project Co-Ordinator
Meet Our Recruiter
About the Role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is supporting a specialist ecological consultancy in Bristol with the appointment of an Ecology Project Coordinator.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in ecology or environmental consultancy who enjoys the organisational and project delivery side of the profession.
Perhaps you have worked as an Ecologist, Assistant Ecologist or within an ecology consultancy support role and understand the practicalities of surveys, seasonal constraints and project delivery, but would now prefer a more office-based position focused on project coordination, resourcing and operations.
You will remain closely connected to ecology while playing a central role in making sure projects, people, equipment and information are effectively coordinated.
The Role
Working closely with Project Managers, Ecologists and specialist subcontractors, you will help coordinate ecological projects and survey programmes from inception through to completion.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Planning, scheduling and resourcing ecological surveys around seasonal survey windows
• Coordinating ecologists, subcontractors, equipment and other project resources
• Arranging site access, survey timings and logistics
• Liaising with clients, subcontractors, site teams and internal colleagues
• Supporting the onboarding of staff and subcontractors
• Maintaining records of subcontractor competencies, insurance and relevant ecological licences
• Coordinating survey equipment bookings, servicing and maintenance
• Managing the handover of field survey data, including forms, photographs and mapping
• Carrying out initial quality assurance to ensure survey information is complete and organised
• Supporting the formatting and delivery of ecological reports
• Preparing health and safety documentation for fieldwork
• Tracking purchase orders, subcontractor costs and timesheets
• Supporting tenders, proposals and wider business development activities
About You
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who already understand the ecology consultancy environment.
You may currently be working in ecology but have discovered that your strengths lie in organisation, project coordination, communication and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
Ideally, you will have:
• Previous experience within an ecology or environmental consultancy
• A good understanding of ecological surveys and consultancy processes
• Experience coordinating multiple projects, surveys or workstreams
• An understanding of seasonal ecological survey windows and fieldwork requirements
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Confidence communicating with clients, ecologists, subcontractors and other stakeholders
• Strong written communication and report reviewing skills
• Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
• Experience using project management, scheduling or CRM systems
• The ability to commute to the Bristol office in Westbury-on-Trym
A degree in ecology, environmental science, biology, conservation or a related subject would be advantageous, although relevant professional experience will also be considered.
Experience with GIS, field data collection applications, fee proposals, tendering, invoicing or fieldwork health and safety would also be beneficial.
The Consultancy
Our client is an established specialist ecological consultancy working with developers, conservation organisations, local authorities, statutory agencies and private landowners.
The team provides ecological surveys, assessment, mitigation and consultancy advice, combining scientific rigour with practical solutions that support sustainable development and nature recovery.
They also invest in their own research and development, exploring new approaches to ecological survey, assessment and mitigation.
You will be joining a growing, supportive and collaborative team where your role will have a direct impact on the successful delivery of ecological projects.
What’s on Offer?
• Competitive salary dependent on experience
• Annual performance bonus and special bonus awards
• Hybrid working, with flexibility across office, home and site-based work
• Unlimited ongoing professional development and training
• Diverse and interesting ecological projects
• Opportunities to contribute to work in New Zealand and the Pacific
• A friendly and collaborative working environment
• The opportunity to develop your career within a growing specialist consultancy
Interested?
If you enjoy working within ecology but are looking for a role where you can use your organisation, coordination and project management skills rather than spending the majority of your time undertaking fieldwork, this could be an excellent next step.
