About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with an established and growing environmental consultancy to recruit Ecological Project Officers, Ecological Consultants, Senior Ecological Consultants and Principal Ecological Consultants across Greater London and the Home Counties.

This is an excellent opportunity for ecologists at different stages of their careers to join a supportive, forward-thinking consultancy delivering a varied portfolio of ecological projects.

Our client is seeking individuals who are passionate about ecology, biodiversity and delivering positive environmental outcomes. Whether you are looking to develop your technical skills, take on greater project responsibility or progress into a leadership position, there are opportunities to suit different levels of experience.

With a strong emphasis on professional development, employee wellbeing and collaborative working, this organisation offers an environment where you can build a rewarding, long-term career.

The Role

Depending on your experience and seniority, your responsibilities may include:

  • Undertaking ecological surveys, including habitat assessments and protected species surveys.

  • Delivering UK Habitat Classification (UKHab) surveys and assessments.

  • Completing Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments using the statutory biodiversity metric.

  • Preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), ecological reports and technical assessments.

  • Developing ecological mitigation, compensation and enhancement strategies.

  • Providing ecological advice to support planning applications and development projects.

  • Managing ecological projects, budgets, programmes and client relationships.

  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

  • Supporting, mentoring and developing junior ecologists, where appropriate.

The scope of responsibilities will be tailored to the level of appointment, with opportunities to develop both technical and project management expertise.

About You

We are interested in speaking with ecological professionals at all levels, from those beginning their consultancy careers to experienced Senior and Principal Ecologists.

Depending on the role, you may offer:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience in ecology, environmental science or a related discipline.

  • Experience working within ecological consultancy or a similar environmental setting.

  • Competency in UKHab surveys and habitat assessments.

  • Experience undertaking BNG assessments.

  • Knowledge of protected species surveys and relevant ecological legislation.

  • Strong ecological report writing and communication skills.

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Project management and client relationship experience for more senior appointments.

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.

Protected species licences and a CSCS card would be advantageous but are not essential.

We welcome applications from candidates with different technical specialisms and levels of experience.

Salary & Benefits

Our client offers a competitive salary based on experience, alongside an attractive benefits package designed to support professional development and employee wellbeing.

Benefits include:

  • 7% employer pension contribution.

  • 24 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with length of service.

  • Additional annual leave entitlements for long service.

  • Flexible working arrangements, including opportunities for home working.

  • Discretionary performance-related bonus.

  • Paid overtime and Time Off in Lieu (TOIL).

  • Employee assistance programme.

  • Comprehensive training and continuing professional development.

  • Opportunities for technical specialisation, project management and career progression.

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Variety of projects: Gain experience across ecological surveys, environmental assessments, biodiversity enhancement and mitigation design.

Career development: Access structured support and opportunities to progress from technical delivery into senior consultancy, project management or leadership.

Work-life balance: Benefit from flexible working arrangements and an organisation that values employee wellbeing.
