About the Role

This is a business that genuinely wants its work to deliver better outcomes for the environment. Ecology is embedded within a wider multidisciplinary approach, bringing together environmental, landscape and planning expertise to help shape projects that balance development with the needs of nature, people and place.

You will join an established, science-led ecology team working across an interesting mix of projects throughout South Wales and the South West. Current work includes renewable energy generation and transmission, nature restoration, development, biodiversity enhancement and wider environmental projects.

The role

Depending on your experience, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Design, undertake and oversee habitat and protected species surveys
  • Prepare PEAs, protected species reports and Ecological Impact Assessments
  • Analyse and interpret ecological survey data
  • Manage or support the management of ecology projects
  • Work directly with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Support and mentor more junior ecologists
  • Prepare fee proposals and tender responses
  • Contribute to the continued growth of the ecology team

There is plenty of opportunity to broaden your experience, particularly across renewable energy and nature restoration, while collaborating with specialists across landscape architecture, planning, arboriculture, heritage, GIS and other environmental disciplines.

About you

You will ideally bring:

  • Consultancy experience within UK ecology
  • Good knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy
  • Experience across habitat and protected species surveys
  • Experience preparing ecological consultancy reports, including PEAs and EcIAs
  • Confidence working with clients and project stakeholders
  • A full UK driving licence

Experience within renewable energy would be particularly valuable, although it is not essential. Protected species licences, particularly bats, great crested newts or dormice, would also be welcomed.

Why consider this opportunity?

The culture and purpose behind this consultancy are a particularly important part of the opportunity. You will be joining people who care about producing high-quality environmental work and achieving positive outcomes rather than simply delivering reports.

Alongside varied project work, the position offers hybrid working, typically with two days a week in the office, and genuine flexibility around working patterns. Part-time arrangements from 30 hours per week can also be considered.

The role can be based around Bristol or Cardiff, with project work primarily across South Wales and South West England. Some site travel, overnight stays and seasonal bat survey work will form part of the position.

Salary: £28,000 to £39,500 depending on experience and level.

If you are an Ecologist looking for a consultancy where environmental values, good science and meaningful project work are genuinely important, I would be very happy to tell you more.
