About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to be supporting an established Scottish ecology consultancy in the search for an Ecologist to join their team in Renfrew.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ecologist who enjoys a varied workload, combining field surveys, project management, technical reporting and client interaction across a diverse range of projects throughout Scotland.

Working with developers, infrastructure providers, public sector organisations and private landowners, our client delivers practical ecological solutions that help balance development and environmental outcomes. The Role

As an Ecologist, you will play a key role in delivering ecological surveys, assessments and consultancy services across a wide range of projects.

You will have the opportunity to manage your own projects, develop client relationships and continue building your technical expertise, while receiving support from experienced senior ecologists and a collaborative wider team.

The role combines office-based work with field surveys throughout Scotland and offers excellent exposure to a variety of habitats, species and project types.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs)
  • Carry out habitat and protected species surveys
  • Produce high-quality technical reports and ecological assessments
  • Manage projects to agreed budgets and timescales
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, local authorities and statutory consultees
  • Provide clear ecological advice and recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with ecological legislation, planning policy and best practice guidance
  • Support the delivery of ecological mitigation and licensing requirements
  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of the ecology team

About You

We are keen to hear from candidates who have:

  • A relevant degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline
  • Professional experience within ecological consultancy or a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of Scottish ecology legislation, policy and guidance
  • Experience undertaking habitat and protected species surveys
  • Good report writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge of species licensing and mitigation requirements
  • An understanding of designated sites and planning-related ecology
  • Familiarity with Biodiversity Net Gain principles and NPF4
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable

  • Protected species survey licences, particularly bats, badgers or great crested newts
  • Experience acting as a named ecologist on mitigation licences
  • QGIS experience
  • Membership of CIEEM or working towards membership
