About the Role

At Ocean to Earth Recruitment, we work with environmental professionals and consultancies that share our values of respect, integrity and growth. We are currently representing a growing environmental consultancy that is looking to appoint a Junior Ecologist to join its expanding ecology team in Northern Ireland.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career ecologist looking to build broad consultancy experience across both field and office-based work, while developing within a supportive and fast-growing organisation delivering projects across the UK and Ireland.

The role offers exposure to a wide variety of ecological work, practical site experience, client interaction and long-term progression opportunities within an established environmental consultancy environment.

The opportunity

You will support a range of ecological projects across infrastructure, development and environmental management sectors, contributing to both survey work and technical delivery. The role would suit someone who enjoys varied project work and is keen to continue developing technical skills, protected species experience and consultancy knowledge.

You will be involved in:

  • Ecological site surveys and fieldwork
  • Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA)
  • Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)
  • Ecological mitigation design and implementation
  • Ecological Clerk of Works duties
  • Supporting project delivery across multiple sectors
  • Liaising with clients and project stakeholders
  • Assisting with report writing and technical documentation

The role will involve travel across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and occasionally wider UK projects, including some overnight stays where required.

About you

The successful candidate is likely to have:

  • A degree in Ecology or a related environmental discipline
  • Some ecological consultancy or field survey experience
  • A strong understanding of UK and Irish wildlife legislation and survey methodologies
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork

Experience with protected species surveys, habitat surveys or invasive species management would be beneficial, although not essential.

Membership of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management would also be advantageous but is not required.

What’s on offer

  • Salary of £28,000 to £31,000 depending on experience
  • 25 days annual leave plus public holidays
  • Increased annual leave with length of service
  • Paid sick leave
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Paid professional memberships
  • Fully funded training and development
  • Career progression opportunities within a growing team
  • Company pension scheme
  • Private healthcare
  • Annual and performance bonus schemes
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free parking
  • Company vehicles for fieldwork
  • Free or subsidised travel support

Location

This role can be based from either the Lisburn or Enniskillen office, with project work across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
