About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is excited to be partnering with a leading UK environmental consultancy to recruit an Ecological Consultant to join their thriving terrestrial ecology team based in Leeds.

About Our Client

Our client is a well-established and rapidly growing environmental consultancy with teams of specialists located across the UK. Their core purpose is to enable business and nature to thrive together, combining innovative thinking with practical, high-quality environmental solutions.

They are recognised for delivering comprehensive environmental compliance support, ecological advice, survey delivery and mitigation across all ecosystems — from terrestrial and freshwater ecology to marine services, arboriculture and GIS-led mapping and data. Their experienced teams work with a broad range of sectors, supporting government, infrastructure and private clients to achieve sustainable outcomes.

The culture is collaborative, values-led and supportive, with a strong emphasis on professional development, ongoing training and wellbeing.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting role for a motivated and Ecological Consultant, with a desireable aspect of the role being any ornithology experience. You’ll be part of a busy, supportive terrestrial ecology team helping to deliver meaningful environmental projects across the UK.

This role is field-intensive, involving frequent travel and occasional overnight stays — particularly during peak survey season. If you thrive in varied environments, enjoy hands-on ecological work and want to contribute to impactful consultancy projects, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Ecological Consultant, you will:

  • Lead and support ecological surveys, impact assessments and mitigation work

  • Prepare high-quality reports and technical outputs

  • Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and colleagues

  • Coordinate, plan and deliver survey programmes and ecological inputs

  • Provide pragmatic advice to help clients meet regulatory and project requirements

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

✔ Previous experience in an ecological consultancy or similar role
✔ A degree (BSc/MSc) in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related subject
✔ Strong field skills in one or more specialist areas
✔ Good knowledge of UK ecology, relevant legislation and survey standards
✔ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
✔ Experience in project coordination and survey planning
✔ A full, clean UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel frequently
✔ A positive, proactive attitude and passion for environmental work
✔ Professional membership of CIEEM or working towards it
✔ Experience preparing and issuing client quotations

Desirable Extras

You’ll stand out if you also have:

✨ Protected species licences (e.g. bats, great crested newt, dormouse)
✨ Ornithological survey experience
✨ Strong botanical identification skills
✨ 2–3 years’ commercial sector experience

Why This Role?

Our client offers:

🎯 A career with a highly respected environmental consultancy, known for excellence and innovation
🎯 Variety of projects across sectors and ecosystems
🎯 Supportive and value-driven culture with development pathways
🎯 Competitive salary and benefits package including up-to-date training, professional subscriptions and more
